Alderman Hughes announces himself
in this morning's Bclletis for re-election
to the council from the Second Ward, and
it gives us pleasure to call at tention to the
important fact. Alderman Hughes briug
with hint the prestage of a term of good
service for the people of his ward. He
made hii attentive and an active member of
the city council; is well posted in all im
portant matters pvrtaiuing to municipal
affiirs and has been guided in his actions
by a good judgment. A better man the
poople of thy Second Ward could not elect,
and Mr. Hughes will ruu like the mis
chief. The work ot raising the Illiuoia Cen
tral tracks has alreaily extended into too
corporate limits of the city and is being
prosecuted with all possible speed. .Be
tween the city and the junction the work
had all to be done with work in order to
make a firm bed, within the city on the
levee, clay will be used. It has not yet
been decided whether the stono depot will
be raised or rjol. The latest proposition is
to leave it ou its present level and construct
an inclined 1 1 at form, eloping from the car
floors down toward the door-Bills of the
depot. This would save the expenditure
of i considerable sum, though tho transfer
of freight would probably be less easy.
The shnds, etc., will all be raised.
