city in unrivaled tor the multiplicity and
beauty of its attractions in the way of
scenery, but as we could only stny nbnut
three hours, of course, we could not i xphne
the womb rs, for most of our time wus coii
suined in eating our little repus), which we
spread under the friendly shulow of a Urge
oak and just at the foot of two immerse
mines, nnd as we sat there enjoying the
goodicR, it seemed all u dic.un, I could not
realize that I was with u putty of living
CairuilM so far from home in a strange
land. Al'tu dinner T. and I left the rehf of
the party to gather up the fragments, while
we explored the side of one of the nioiin
biins and to get some specimens of cue, but
before we were half way up the mountain
we looked at our watches and found to our
horror, that we jut:t had time to get Imi k to
the train, so we Imriicd down with our load
of specimens. Shortly alter we reached
the train it pulled out, for U nvtr, over the
Baine route, yet who could , recognize it?
The scenes seem entirely different, and we
could bear 'people saying-why, I didn't
see that! as some strange sight would ap
pear. We finally leave the grand old ca
non, with a pathetic and friendly feeling
toward it, for the granduer it has exhibited
and we sail out over the plain, toward the
Queen City just in time to see the grand
old sun bide behind the snow crowned
mountain, which was a glorious sight.
We reached Denver at half-past seven,
and though somewhat wearied, we fir!
fully compensated, aud have on our memo
ries an impression of sublime granduer that
cannot be effaced except by death.
Well, I intended to give you account of
my trip to Gray's Peak, .but I see I have
dwelt too long on the Georgetown subject.
John McCoullough is here every night this
week. With kindest regards to old friends
