OEDINANCE NUMBER FOUR
An Ordinance Providing for Liconsos.
Bo it ordained by the Mayor and
Common Council of tho City of Olobo:
SECTION I.
It shall bo unlawful for any porson
or persons or body corporate to engage
in or carry on within the corporato lim
its of the City of Globe, any business,
profession or occupation for tho tran
saction or carrying on of which a li
eonso is required, without first taking
out or procuring the liconso required
for such business, profession or occupa
tiou.
SECTION II.
No liconso granted or issued undor
nay of tho provisions of this Onliuanco
shall bo in any manner assignable or
transferable, or authorize any porson
other than is therein mentioned or
nnmed to do business, or authorize any
other business than is therein mentioned
or named to bo done or transacted, at
auy place other than is therein men
tioned or named, without permission
from tho Common Council endorsed
thereon.
Whenever the Common Council shall
grant such privilogo, it shall immedi
ately report tho nauio to the City Mnr
shal. Every such license shall specify by
name tho person, firm or corporation to
whom or which it shall bo issued, and
shall dosignatc tho particular place at
which tho business shall be carried oil.
SECTION III.
Any person who shall violato any of
tho provisions of this Ordinance shall
bo deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and
upon conviction thereof shall bo pun
ished by a fine of not more than three
hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in
tho City or County jnil for a period of
not moro thnn threo mouths, or by both.
SECTION IV.
Upon the trial of any criminal action
brought under or arising from any pro
visions of this Ordinance, tho defendant
shall bo doomed not to have procured
the municipal license, for tho current
time, unless he or Bhe either produces
tho same or proves having paid for the
same to the proper officer.
SECTION V.
In any action brought under or aris
ing out of any provision of this Ordin
ance, tho fact that tho party thereto
represented himself or herself as en
gaged in any business or calling for tho
transaction of which a license is by this
Ordinance required, or that such party
exhibited a sign indicating such busi
ness or calling, shall bo prima facie
evidence of tho liability of such party
to pay for a license.
SECTION VL
If any person shall furnish such evi
dence as shall satisfy the Common
Council that ho or she, by reason of
misfortuno or physical infirmity, merits
exemption from the provision of any
section or clause of this Ordinance, a
free gratuitous license may bo issued
to Mich party upon tho recommendation
of said Common Council, said licenses
to be countersigned by a majority of
said Common Council.
SECTION VII.
All licenses for owners, keepers or
drivers of vehicles, hackney carriages
or herdic coaches shall date from tho
first day of January or July of each
year and shall he issued for six months
from either of tho aforesaid dates.
Licenses on dogs shall expire on tho
31st day of December in each year, and
shall bo issued for one year from Janu
ary 1st of each year.
All licenses of street railroad passen
ger cars, insurance companies or insur
ance agents, runner and solicitors, ped
dlers of produce, Jish, fruit, game, veg
etables and merchandise from baskets
or wagons, shall date from tho first day
of January, April, July or October of
oath year, and shall be Issued for the
term of threo months, provided on an
application being made for tho first
time during the quarter, tho licenso
shall be pro rated and issued to tho
end of tho quarter.
All licenses for theaters, concert halls,
places of amusement, entcrtninmcuta or
exhibitions, and nil other licenses not
enumerated abovo may be issued for
tho period of ono year, for three months,'
for one month, or for one dny.

All licenses shall bo paid for in ad
vance in lawful money of tho United
States.
No receipts for licenses shall bo is
sue'd by tho City Marshal on any other
blanks than those received from tho City
Clerk.
No greater or less amount of money
shall bo charged or received for li
censes so issued than is charged to
said City Marshal by tho City Clerk
and printed on said licenso receipts.
No licenso receipt shall bo sold or
issued by tho City Marshal for any
period dt time exceeding tho time print
ed on tho licenso receipt, aud for which
time the samo was issued and charged
to tho City Marshal by the City Clerk.
No porson required to bo licensed
shall rccoive from tho City Marshal or
his deputies auy licenso receipts for a
longer period than the timo printed on
the said license, blank, or pay for any
licenso recoipt any greater or less
amount of monoy than tho amount
printed on said licenso receipt.
No porson required to bo licensed
shall pay nny sum of money to the
City Marshal or his deputies for a li
conse, without demanding and recoiving
thprofor n liconso rocoipt on which is
printed tho time for which said license
is issued, and tho amount paid there-
for.
SECTION IX.
Evory porson having a licenso tinder
tho provisions of this Ordhianco shall
exhibit tho samo at all times while in
force in some conspicuous part of his or
her place of business, and shall produco
3ame when applying for a ronowal, or
when requested to do bo by any officer
of tho liconso or police dopartmont.
Evory peddler, whilo engaged in ped
dling, shall carry his ofhor licenso and
exhibit tho samo if required by any
municipal ofiicor.
SECTION X. ,
All persons who shall sell, disposo
of or deal in wines, distilled or malt
liquors in quantities of two gallons and
upward shall be doomed to ho wholcsalo
liquor dealers and shall pay a quarterly
liconso of $90.00. All persons who sell,
disposo of, ore deal in wines, distilled
or malt liquo'rs jn quantities less than
two gallons and not less than two pints
which shall not bo consumed on the
promises, shall pay a quarterly licenso
of $15.00. All persons who shall sell,
dispose of or deal in wines, distilled or
mait liquors in quantities of less than
ono gallon for consumption upon tho
promises shall be deemed to bo retail
liquor dealers and shall pay a quarterly
license of $90.00, provided that any
person who shall pay u quarterly licenso
of $90.00 as a retail liquor dealer may
soil, dispose of or deal in wines, dis
tilled or malt liquors in quantities of
not less than ono pint nor more than
two gallons, which shall not be con
sumed upon tho premises, without tho
payment of tho quarterly licenso of
$45.00 as herein provided.
SECTION XL
Every grocer, druggist, jeweler,!
uutciier, my goods merchant, shoo mer
chant, milliner, hardwaro merchant,
dealer in curios, lumber merchant, deal
er iu coal and wood, dealer in second
hand goods, fruit, nuts and confection
ery, baker and dealer in soda vater or
soft drinks, shall pay a quarterly li
censo tax to be computed as follows:'
Every proprietor, owner br manager
of any of the aforesaid businesses or
occupations, shnll make a written state
ment under oath to the marshal at the
beginning of each quarter, certifying
to tho amount of business transacted
by him, averaged for tho preceding
quarter, aud upon such statement shall
pay -a quarterly license upon tho fol
lowing basis:
Those whoso aggregato quarterly
sales amount to less than $5,000 shall
pay a quarterly licenso of $10.
Thoso whose aggregate quarterly
sales amount to moro than $5,000 and
less than $10,000, shall pay a quartorly
license of $15.00.
Those whoso aggregate quarterly
sales amount to moro than $10,000 and
less than $15,000, shall pay a quartorly
licenso of $20.
Those whoso aggregato quarterly
sales amount to moro than $15,000 and
less than $25,000 shall pay a quarterly
license of $30.
Thoso whoso aggregate quarterly
sales amount to more than $25,000 and
less than $30,000 shall pay a quarterly
licenso of $10.
Thoso whoso aggregato quarterly
sales amount to more than $30,000 and
Iqss than $50,000, shall pay a quartorly
licenso of $45.
Tlmso whose aggregate quarterly
sales amount to more than $50,000 and
less than $75,000, shall pay a quarterly
licenso of $50.
Those whose aggregato quarterly
sales amount to more thnn $75,000 and
less than $100,000, slinll pay a quarterly
licenso of $55.
Thoso whoso aggregato quarterly
sales amount to moro than $100,000
shall pay a quarterly licenso of $75.
SECTION .XII.
Tho rates of licenso not heretofore
specified shall bo according to tho fol
lowing schedule:
1. For each placo where bowling or
ton pin alleys are maintained, thirty
($30.00) dollars per quarter.
2. For each gambling tablo or appa
ratus of any kind, such as montc, faro,
pass faro, rondeau, roulctto, twenty
two, keno, dice, red and black, lanquin
ette, tan, studhorse poker, craps, policy,
lottery, or any other banking or per
centage game, or any game played for
monoy, check or credit or any other
representative of value of whatever
name, forty-five ($45.00) dollars per
quarter, provided that no license shall
be issued for any gamo whatever in any
placo frequented by minors.
3. For each street show and carnival,
twcnc;fivo ($25.00) dollars per day.
For each circus, quo hundred ($100.00)
per day. For each merry-go-round,
twenty-five ($25.00) dollars per day.
For each theater, two dollars and fifty
cents ($2.50) per day or fifteen ($15.00)
dollars per quarter.
'4. For commission merchants ten
($10.00) dollars per quarter.
5. For ea?h hotel or inn thirty
($30.00) dollars per quarter.
0. For each lodging house for tran
sient guests, fifteon ($15.00) dollars por
quarter.
7. For each Stock Broker, forty-five
($45.00) dollars per quarter. For each
Money Broker, fifteon ($15.00) dollars
per quartor; -for each Pawn Broker,
forty-fivo ($45.00) dollars per quartor.
8. For each insuranco agent, forty
five ($45.00) dollars per quarter.
9. For each auctioneer, ten ($10.00)
dollars per quarter.
10. For each restaurant, fifteen
($15.00) dollars per quartor; provided
that this shall not apply to privato
boarding houses.
11. For each hackman, ten ($10.00)
dollars per quarter. .For each drayman,
expressman or porson hauling goods fo
hire, fifteen ($15.00) dollars, per quar
tor. 12. For each steam laundry twenty
($20.D0) dollars per quartor. For each
Chinese laundry, ten ($10.00) dollars
per quarter.
13. For each fortunto teller, medium,
palmist, street fakor or person engaged
in a similar business or occupation,
twonty-fivo ($25.00) dollars per quarter.
14. For each undertaking establish
ment, thirty ($30.00) dollars por quar
tor. 15. For each photographer engaged
in a photograph business, fivo ($5.00)
dollars per quartor.
10, For each shooting gallery, fifteen
($15.00) dollars per quarter.
17. lor each telegraph company,
thirty ($30.00) dollars por quarter.
18. For each telephone company
thirty ($30.00) dollars per quartor.
19. For each barber shop, threo
($3.00) dollars per quarter for each
chair.
20. For each livery stable, dealing
in hay and grain, thirty ($30.00) dol
lars per quarter; all others, twenty
($20.00) dollars per quarter.
21. For each tailoring establishment,
fivo ($5.00) dollars por quartor.

sale or retail, or of any bawdy house
or house of prostitution or any inmate
thereof, or any gambling license may
bo revoked by the Common Council up-

license is to bo passed upon and to make
any showing heforo tho Council that ho
may desire regarding the samo.
SECTION XIV.
This Ordinanco shall jjo into effect
upon the first day of February, 1907,
and until April 1st, 1907, tho person or
persons or firms or proprietors of the
businesses or occupations, for which a
license is required by tho foregoing pro
visions, shall secure a license from tho
said date to April 1st, lOOr, and pay
tho City Marshal therefor, for such
poriod, such proportional ' sum as tho
longth of such period is to tho regular
period for which each respective liconso
shall bo issued, and thereafter such li
censes shall bo issuod as hereinbefore
provided.
