(By I, N. Kinsey)
GLOBE, February 11. The market
did well today and n few specialties
woro strong and active. Anaconda
mndo a ten-point rise on tho on the
tinnouncoimint that the stock will be
changed to $100 par. It is belioved
that $.100 on tho presont par will look
cheap. Amalgamated was also strong,
advancing two ami ono-half points.
Quincy and Tamarack are both con
ing back into favor again. North Butto
wns strong and stock was scarce. Greono
Consolidated was stronger than for
somo timo past. Tho oxchango of Grooue
for Greono-Cannnen will probably be
mndo somo timo this month and with
that out of tho way, wo think tho other
Colo-Kyan stocks will bo stronger, es
pecially North Butto and Coalition. Old
Dominion was strong above $57 tho en
tiro day. Calumet & Globo wns in
good demand nt $3 to $3.25.
Logan & Bryan say of tho Now York
mnrkot: "Market closed strong and
gonornlly higher, with coppors in the
lead. Tho tone throughout the day ig
nored Saturday's unfavorable bank
statement and today's ndvnnco to 5 per
cent in call money. Tho strength in to
day's market and the advance in lonn-
ing rates suggest that Wall street is not
uneasy about the imemdiate future of
money. Undoubtedly much of today's
strongth wns due to short covering, but
we oursolves have noted a bettor char
acter of buying on bronks. It is not
buying for n long pull but morely on
the theory that tle market is entitled to
a fair-sized recovery from its reces
sion." Boston Coppers

FAVOB HIGH LICENSE
That tho legislature will bo gonornlly
commended in tho event thnt they pass
a high liconso bill is generally known
and tlita the high license will go
through both tho council nnd the as
sembly and secure tho signature of Gov
ernor Kibboy, making it n law, is tho
belief of tho majority of tho councilmcn
and assemblymon who were in the city
this week visiting tho territorial univer
sity. The latest npprovnl of tho high li
cense proposition comes from the union
smoltcrmen employed at the big 1,000
ton smelter at Humboldt. Tho smelter
men have addressed a communication
to Editor J. W. Milncs of tho Prescott
Tho communication is as follows:
"At a regular meeting of tho Mill
and Smoltcrmen 'b union, No. 147, W. F.
M., held February 4, tho following reso
lution was introduced and adopted with
out a dissenting vote:

Mr. nnd Mrs. C. E. Finney of Pres
cott spont yesterdny in Phoenix and
will leave today for Christmas mining
camp, where they will be the guests of
Mr. Chittenden for a day or two, says
tho Florence Blade. Mr. Finney was
seen at tho Hotel Adams and asked
somewhat concerning tho report that he
was no longor counected with tho Hum
boldt smelter and also concerning his
Mr. Finney said it was truo that he
had sovorod his connection with th6
Humboldt enterprise, merely because he
had a good opKrtumty to dispose of
his stock and thought it wise business
management to do so. Regurding tho
smelter property, however, and its asso
ciated mines, ho spoke most ilattoring
ly, saying it was an industrial project
tho value and magnitude of which is
not yet fully appreciated. The smelter
lias beon well supplied with ore, has
never had u shortage, in fact there is
talk of expansion which will uudoubt
odly follow in due course of time, as the
mines, in Yavapai county, now engaged
oni in development, take their places
as regular producers.
In regard to his own future opera
tions ho said that his immediate plans
were for the development of the Dan
O Carroll property he recently pur
chased, which lies just over the hill
from the Saddle Mountain mino and
smelter nt Christmas, It is thrco miles
north of Burns station, which is a few
miles this side of Winkelmau on tho P.
& E. This property, ho said, was ac
quired by the Dripping Springs Copper
Mines & Smelters, Incorporated, a com
pany of which he is president nnd E.
v. Brooks is secretary and treasurer.
Ho ,flay8 tho company will expend a
largo amount of monoy in opening up
and developing tho property; that work
is progressing now in tho erection of
suitable camp buildings and that when
tho mine hns been sufficiently dovclopetl
a .smelter will bo built to servo it and
reduce its ores. This will tako some
time, perhaps a year or so, but the gon
tlomen interested are prepared for jtho
undertaking and will proceed on the
plan of largo operations. The O'Carroll
property appeals to him as a maguifi
cent one, but even at that ho proposes
to develop it before ho builds reduction
works. Tho Saddle Mountain property
adjoins it on tho cast and on the west
it is joined by what is know nas the
Schneider group of claims.
