Hugh Sherwiu, in Judge Thomas' court, was yesterday fined $(1 for dis turbing the peace. r H. Loyal and George Sears each paid n fine of $0 to Judge Thomas j-es terday for coming to blows near a Broad street saloon. Charles Tate got twenty days at hard labor in Judge Thomas' court yesterday for vagrancy. A lecture will be delivered next Sun day afternoon at 4 o'clock from the courthouse stops for the benefit of the colored people of Globe. The public generally is invited to attend. FUEL SHORTAGE CLOSES Mi Black Hawk and Superior & Boston Forced to Quit Until Oil Arrives The mines of the Globe district are again facing a serious fuel shortage and it is probable that u number of the mines will follow two which weie shut down yesterday becauso of the shortage of fuel oil. The Black Hawk mine of the Arizona Commercial closed down yesterday, as did the Great Eastern of the Superior & Boston, which adjoins the Black Hawk. The Copper Hill mine of the Arizona Commercial is still in operation, but if no fuel arrives within twenty-four hours it will also have to eloso down. it is understood that the Southern Pacific railroad is confiscating all of the oil which is being transported over the road from the California oil fields. Six teen cars of oil billed for the Old Do minion Mining & Smelting company arc understood to have been confiscated by the Southern Pacific at Bowie this week. The Old Dominion furnishes the oil to the Arizona Commercial. The Old Dominion has a supply of oil on hand, but unless regular ship ments again begin coming in, it is barely possible that the big company will partially cease operations. "PIIOKXIX, Ariz., March 19. There were no developments today in the case of Louis V. By tinge, the fugitive who is believed to have murdered John Leicht Sunday, whose body is being searched for, except as to the record of Bytinge. It was mistaken identity in the case of the man hccii .at Maricopa yesterday. So if Bytinge met with no interruption he might have reached Los Angeles three hours before knowledge of the mystery bote Monday afternoon. Oflicers today are mniling descriptions and pictures of Bytinge. It was learned that Bytinge twice culled on a Phoenix clergyman and con fessed to his record as a convict in Ohio and said he intended to make a new start. A resident of Phoenix also announces that he knew the Bytinge family in Dayton and knew that Louis served a term for forgery. He was the black sheep of the family and constant ly in tumble. During Ids confinement his mother died of a broken heart. Three search parties were out all day searching for the body of Leicht. They have not returned and will prolufbly camp in the field, resuming the search tomorrow. Dr. Clarke Loomis, who is under indictment in Oregon in what is known as tho Hermanu-Puter conspiracy, was tho principal witness in the Hermann trial today. Loomis was pioduced by the government and his testimony is re guided as imjKirhiut to show that Her Miami hud teasoii to destroy his letter books, for which hn is being tried. Loomis said he hud beep a special agent for the land ollice in Oregon and was dismissed shortly before Hermann retired from tlico Hipp. He identified twenty-live letters width constituted the correspondence between himself and Hermann as commissioner. Nearly all the letters to Mr. Hermann, the witness said, he had marked and regarded as personal and confidential, and learned for the first time today that they had been placed in the files of the laud office. The original letters of Hermann were secured by the government from the papers of Loomis. A series of let ters related to the alleged falsification of accounts by Loomis and in one let ter he bogged to be allowed to resign. Loomis admitted he had "held up" S. A. D. Puter for $500 with which to defend himself from certain reports he had made on twelve of Putcr's home" stead claims, that ho had previously re ceived a like amount from Puter as ex pense, money for examinjng nnd report ing on thcic claims. Puter had been convicted in the case which is known as the "Seven-eleven" case. He is here to testify for the government in the present case.
