OLOIU:, March 25. (lutes of New
York nays: Liquidation was in evi
dence throughout the session. There
nio no further development in any di
rection, and foreign news was more
favorable, if anything. The decline is
undoubtedly canned by general uneasi

legislation and labor situation, which
is not good. IJceause of this agitation
confidence had been shaken and we can
not sec much in way of cessation in
liquidation until somo sort of nssuranco
is given out publicly from the right
source of a reassuring nature. Ordin

to heavy selling. No definite news came

As the culminating stroke of a re

market, .1. Brand! Walker, a member
of the Chicago stock exchange, staying
at the' Lakewood hotel, is said to have
cleaned up more than $1,000,000 yester
day. He conducted operations from a

Walker modestly refused to say any
thing about his winnings. When pressed
by reporters, however, he admitted that
n transaction in United States Steel had
made him profit of $50D,00O.. Jle said
he sold 50.000 shares around 50, when
he had bought in at from 3$ to 30.
"I began selling stock six mouths
ago," said Mr, Walker, "because the
bond market was steadily declining,
while Ktocks were advancing. Tho rail
roads were putting out new seeurities
and increasing dividends at the same
time. This hud to end but one way
sooner or later.
"I began selling Union Pacific at
100. 1 did not see how any railroad
in this country, or any other country,
could get nites high enough to pay 10
per cent dividends, particularly when
the Chicago & Northwestern, the stand
ard railroad of this country, only paid
7 per cent. 1 do not believe" that the
decline is over. 1 believe that liquida
tion will soon start iu copper stocks.

"JUST LANDED" A SCENE AT ELLIS ISLAND.
The illustration shows a typical group of Immigrants at the gate of the
