Amalgamated Sells Ex-Dividend, but
Trading in It Narrow as Compared
with Past Tow Days Money Work

(By I. N. Kinsoy)
GLOBE, April 25. Walker Brothers
if New York say: Market today open
tl fairly steady and then sold off. Dur
ing tho middlo of tho day tho market
was inactive and mostly in traders'
hands. Boforo the close prices braced
up -and closed at about tho best. Wo
look for a rather dull market for tho
rest of tho weak.
Paine of Boston soys: Market today
opened quiot and continued quiet and
featureless throughout tho day. Amal
gamated sold ex-dividend of $2 quarter
ly and trading in it was narrow com
jiared with past fow days. Money is
working easy tho world ovor now and
after this period of dullness we should
have a highor market, as stocks will bo
pretty well digested and in stronger
hands then for some time. Wo still
favor purchases on breaks.
Subscriptions for tho Cananea Ari
zona, detailed mention of which is made
elsowhero in this paper, can be made at
my oflice in the Dominion hotel, begin
ning Saturday morning. Only 100,000
shares at $1 will be issued and judging
from the strong financial backing that
tho company lias in Duluth, Chicago and
Now York, as well as the favorable lo
cation of tho property, tho stock will
bo a good trader.

GLOBE, April 23. Tho stock mnrkct
continues very quiet nnd very little
trading is in ovidunce. Amalgamated
quoted less dividend held around $91
and looks strong. Old Dominion opened
at $51.12, but closed $53.50 bid and
$53.75 asked. With tho present showing
of tho Old Dominion this certainly is
a snap of a buy.
Coppor selling around 25 M cents with

Contest at Bisbeo Last Sunday Stoppod
by Banger Captain Because of Now
Law Passed Pirst Time that Law
Has Been Enforced In Arizona.
With the action taken by Banger Cap
tain Harry Wheeler yesterday at Don
Luis In preventing an exhibition in
which steers were to have been roped
and tied, and "Nigger" Pickett was
billed to throw a steer with his teeth,
tho end of cruelty to animals in Ari
zona, whethor in an exhibition or other
wise, was marked, the last and most
thrilling of wild west feats has received
a quietus and tho only vestige now loft
of life on tho plains remains in the sim
ple and monotonous stunt of the cow
puncher who may continue to mount
tho hurricano deck of tho untamed
broncho and bo jolted to his heart's
content, says the Bisbee Review.
Tho Twenty-fourth legislature said
that cruelty to animals in the guiso of
feats of skill and exhibitions must stop
Captain Harry Wheeler seconded the
enactment of the law and so far as is
known Sundty, April 13, was the first
timo in the history of this territory that
cowboy sport was peremptorily called
to a halt under threat of imprisonment.
For tho past three weeks O. C. Na
tions and Clay McGonnigle, both fa
mous throughout tho west as steer tiers
and broncho busters, have been conduct
ing weekly exhibitions of their ability,
nnd as a sido lino "Nigger" Pickett
of Texas, a black cowboy, has been
throwing a steer by catching the ani
mal's lip between his teeth after mount
ing tho running steer from tho back of
a fleet pony, and throwing the beast.
To the world this has proven a most
interesting feat and crowds havo gath
ered expressly to see this part of the
performance. There will bo no more of
it wherever there is an Arizona ranger,
or, for that matter, any other officer of
tho law who is conversant with tho lat
est statute covering this fcaturo of ex
hibitions. Sunday's was tho second exhibition
scheduled to bo conducted for the edi
fication of tho Bisbee public, the first
having been conducted without interruption.
Tho management of the affair offered
no resistance to tho orders of the offi
cer of the law, but substituted instead
of the steer ticing and the "Nigger"
steer contest, a wholo lot of rough rid
ing which seemed to catch the crowd
and servo to appcaso them.
Tho officers would not even permit the
riders to throw a rope about the cattle
that they had secured for the occasion,
but owing to tho foresight of the man
agement a largo number of unbroken
bronchos were on hand and the exhibi
tion that followed wes sufficient to sat
isfy the crowd that had gathered.
