'MUSICAL HEART" MAN DEAD
A Nowspapor Man Whoso Blood Pump
Sounded Liko a Harmonica
A. Carson Wnrron, known far and
wide as tho man with tho musical
heart," whoso woird and deadly, ail
mont hourly thrcntoned death, and do
fied all attempts at cures by tho world's
greatest specialists, is dead.
With his heart-beats giving forth au
dlblo sounds liko tho low strnins of a
harmonica, Wnrron lived for twonty-fivo
years, reconciled to tho opinions voiced
by physicians that heart disenso ovoii
tually would claim .him. But, alas, for
tho prophecies of tho medical world al
large, ho died from pnoumonin after an
illness of three flays.
For a quarter of a century Wnrron
strolled nbout town or lounged about
his homo here, carrying constantly on
his porson tho following will bequeath
ing his body, in tho ovont of death from
heart disease, to science:
"This is my last will and testament.
At my death 1 givo and boqueath to tho
surgeons of the Modieo-Chirugical col
logo hospital my body for dissection, in
order that my heart may bo removed for
examination in tho interests of science.
"My brother, Androw P.. Wnrron of
this city, will soo that my wishes in
this rospect arc carried out.
"A. CARSON WARREN."
Warren also carried tho following lot
tor for years, nddrcssed to tho coronor:
"In case of my suddon death from
accident or heart disenso my body is to
bo dolivored to tho Mcdico-Chirurgicnl
college hospital for dissection by the
surgeons thoro for tho incrcaso nnd dif
fusion of knowlcdgo among tho profes
sion. It is my desiro that tho physi
cians may know what has caused my
snffonngs and that thoy may proscribe
for humanity similarly afflicted after I
am doad."
Rolativos of tho doad man aro said
to havo followed out his instructions to
tho letter.
Wnrron was a native of Philadelphia
and a votoran nowspapor man. His
woird ailmont developed when ho had
roached middle age. At first ho suf
fered excruciating pains, and tho pecu
liar sounds that camo from his heart'
as it pumped blood caused him much
uneasinoss.
For fiftcon years, up to tho very hour
of his death, Warren hnd not known
surcease from pain. At periods fearful
pains would shoot through tho myriad
nerves of his body, leaving him weak
and exhausted at tho end of tho attack.
At other times tho agony was contin
ued for days and wcaks at a time.
Stoically he boro up under his misery,
chatting and smiling tho whilo his teeth
grit with tho intensity of tho pain ho
bravely sought to conceal from his
frionds.
Vainly ho sought a cure in climatcJ
and in the listless, as well as tho stren
uous life, but there was no relief. With
his increasing years his ailment grow
worse. Every two hours he was awak
oncd at night by tho murmurings from
his own heart, which could bo heard at
times across an ordinary room.
Warren spent months in dozens of
hospitals throughout Pennsylvania and
the country at largo. Heart specialists
from tho largo cities in this country
and from Paris, London and Berlin ex
amined, studied and marveled at his
ailment. All agreed that death was apt
to overtako him at any minute.
Tho theories of tho many physicians
who examined him at first made the
sick man melancholy. Then ho learned
to faco death with a grim defiance.
"Tho most depressing thing," ho
would say to his friends, "is tho sus
pense and dread expectancy." Yot so
cheery in domeanor and socially pleas
ant was ho that not ono of tho hun
dreds that passed him daily on Chest
nut street over suspected tho ever-pres-entn
dread of tho man. Philadelphia

GLOBE, May 21. Tho mnrkot con
tinued to drop today and tho closing
figures are about tho lowest rocorded
during the day. We look for additional
strength tomorrow nil nlong tho list.
There seemed to bo no particular rea
sons for tho heavy liquidation today,
but tho tired holders aro gradually sell
ing thoir stock and tho buying power is
extromoly limited. Tho advice seems
to bo that a long dull porfod is ahead
of us. North Butto declaring a divi
dend of $2 was nlso a' disappointment,
ns a bottor dividend was expected. Old
Dominion sold lowor again today, reach
ing v49. This undoubtedly is as low a
figure as it will reach in fnco of tho
presont developments and outlook for
tho mine.

A STOCK DREAM ON CHANGE
(With apologios to Poo, -when ho was
"Raven")
Onco upon a midnight dreary, as I pon
dorcd wenk and weary,
O'er the prospects of tho bargain stock
in store,
Suddenly a thought camo trooping, as
of someone loudly whooping,
Telling mo of Btocks gono shooting high
er, higher than before,
"Truly," said I, " 'tis my fancies,
warped and twisted to the coro,
Snarled and gnarled by deoply think
ing. "Ah," said 1, without blink
ing. "Stocks on 'clinngo are only drinking
up our wealth,
By soaring skyward; only this and
nothing moro."
Long I thought nnd never ceasing,
while tho picture seemed so jilenshig,
O'or tho wealth there seemed to be for
mo in store,
I could pick up stocks at bargains, buy
and sell at profit margins,
Clip my coupons on not margins, lay up
wealth in banks galore;
Shining wealth I piled up highly.
"Surely," said I, very dryly,
"I'll telegraph tho news so slyly,
Cornor stocks, and then somo moro."
Littlo thinking of the morrow, only of
tho wealth id harrow,
With tho gold that 1 could borrow;
But 'twas Castle Dreams, and nothing
more.
For when Reason got to showing Mark-
ham's man, who did tho hoeing,
Buying stocks, he littlo knowing tho
job ho had in store,
Long I pondered, fancy linking fancy
unto fancy; then I thought some moro
Of the wealth thero is in jobbing, of
tho fun thoro is in robbing,
While the price of stock is dropping,
dropping to the core,
While your dollars aro "skidooing,"
your pocketbook undoing,
Then some more.
When 1 awoke from dreaming, all my
castles lost their gleaming,
And those riches had the seeming
mighty poor;
For I found I had been snoring, and
my head was buzzing, roaring,
And my reason was doplo'ring loss of
wealth in castles storing.
Mcrclv this and nothing more.
