A rathor curious hot botweon an Eng

a dinner typical of sovon difforont coun

Tho continuous dinnor began with a
real English meal, with turtlo soup,
meat roasted beforo n firo and good
English cheese. On tho noxt night n
trench dinnor, i ntruo Parisian style,
was given, nnd this was followod by a

any other man could refuse to accept a

men could, but thoy arc few anil far

Tho question is pertinent. There arc
no speed limits for which tho incum

ing nt a pac owith which no other man
of his timo could kcop up, which is
equivalent to .saying that with no other
man would his party be satisfied. Ditto,
possibly, as to tho country.
However, this is a ditch it will take
timo to cross. In the Interval it can
do no harm to exploit Taft and Hughes
and Knox. Nor will it be surprising
should the president rcitcrato his de
termination to roturn to Oyster Bay at
tho end of his term. Still, having n

GLOBE, Juno 18. There was more
demand for good stocks today than

market was fairly strong throughout
tho session. Tho stocks in most demnnd

Lending monoy is the very best way
not to get it back.
A woman likes you to bo a liar if it's
because you call her pretty.
A girl will hardly over fool a man
if ho isn't worth her doing it for prac

Another "Dark" Conspiracy
Rev. J. W. Davis, whom Bishop Hood
transferred from tho pastorate of the
Footo Strcot African Methodist church
to n Poughkccpsie pulpit, said today
that tho real reason for his removal was
the anger of nearly all his negro breth
ren in tho ministry at his defense of
President Roosevelt for his course in
tho Brownsville outrage.
"It was a deep, dark conspiracy,"
said Mr. Davis, "but I shall neither bo
driven from Now Havon nor abato my
admiration ono white for Mr. Roosovelt
and Bookter T. Washington." New

A Beautiful Song
Don't miss hearing Charles Smith

Sweetest Song of All" at the Iris to
night. Straw Votes on tho Presidency
The first straw voto on the presi
dency which has been taken in nil parts
of the country has just been completed
by C. S. Hoyt, disbursing clerk of tho
houso of representatives. In sending
to tho employees of tho houso tho
vouchors for their May salaries, which
must bo signed and returned by June
1, Mr. Hoyt enclosed a straw ballot,
and several hundred liavo been re
turned. To his great surprise over 90
per cent bear tho name, of Secretary
Taft, although ho had expected that
among the employees of the house
Speaker Cannon would enjoy a long
lead. Employees from Illinois, Penn
sylvania and Indiana havo voted al
most exclusively for tho speaker, Sen
ator Knox and the vico president, al
though Representative Ovcrstreot
gained ono Indiana voto. But outsido
of these states tho voting is almost
unanimous for tho secretary of war.
As tho employees of tho houso arc
almost invariably politicians cither full
grown or embryo, tho significance of
their ballots is regarded as consider
able. Washington dispatch to tho Now
