V E OF METAL ON THE DECLINE Which Accounts for tho Continued Liquidation in Copper Securities Lending Railroad Issues Hold Firm Local Stocks Inactive (By I. N. Kinsoy) GLOBE, August 1. Paine, Wolilior & Co. of Boston say: Long stock contiu ueH4to conio Out and bears were able to cover tshorta without ntlvanoing prices. Tho situation looks serious and although tlio stocks arc eheap intrinsiunlly, still wo fear that n much further drop will hurt soinobody and wo shall have forced liquidation with no buying jtowor. We do not adviso anjono selling if they think thoy can carry stocks down ten points more, but wo advise everyone to look ahead and seo if they could stand such a strain. Copper stocks took a further deeliuo today with Amalgamated in tho lead. Wo wore uirtthlo to securo definite in formation as to tho exact cause of tho decline, but bclievo that tho insiders anticipate a further reduction in tho price of tho metal. Anaconda sold down to $53.25, tho lowest it has boon since tho March panic. Calumet & Arizona sold o(T $1, closing weak at $1G0, Nip issiiig romnined unchanged at $S,2o, but tho serious labor troubles in tho Cobalt camp makes this stock rather uncertain, niul lowor prices are anticipated. Old Dominion sold at $10.50, tho low est it has been sinco Inst March. In trinsically, tho stock is a bargain at tho present price, but if tho general list continues to sell off it will possibly go lower. They first went to Globo nnd later to a farm near Mesa, whoro both secured 'work. On or about Mny 20, Bello Ferguson accidentally fell into a well and badly, fractured hor skull. She was taken to a hotel in the town of Mesa for surgical nttontion by hor paramour. There seemed to be small hope of her recovery and on Juno 1, oVcrcomo with rcmorso and probably bad booze, John Fergu son took morphine and died. Ho loft a number of sentimental notes review ing his iutonse lovo for tho woman nnd expressing tho belief that she could not recover. When Bello Ferguson recov ered consciousness she sent a telegram to hor husband 411 Safford, briefly outlin ing hor condition and requesting that ho come to hor. John demurred for n few days and then went to tho bed side of his wife. A reconciliation fol lowed, and after a very delicate oper ation tho woman fully recovered. UNITED STATES ATTORNEY ALEXANDER AFTER CONSUL Edmund T. Satchell Assayer and Chemist lii BXOAD STREET" F. O. Box 807 United States Attorney J. L. B. Al exander has received instructions from Attorney General Bonaparte of tho do partiucnt of justico to nt once begin tho vigorous prosecution of Consul Anotnio Maza of Douglas m a charge of insti gating tho recent kidnaping of Manuel Sarabia, says the Phoenix Democrat. Included in the prosecution that will bo started by United States Attorney Alexander against Maza arc Sheriff Jack White of Cochiso county, nnd nil tho officers who took part in tho kid naping from Douglas of Sarabia. Sheriff White has been exonerated of all blame by tho peoplo of Cochise county, but ono of his deputy sheriffs is alleged to have taken part in the affair, nnd for that reason the depart ment of justico will proceed against him on tho ground that he is responsible for tho acts of his subordinates. h Alexander is said already to have strong evidence that can bo produced in court against Consul Maza, who is now under arrest at Nogalcs. Maza will bo confronted by peoplo who will say that they rented an automobile to tnko Sarabia across tho lino, and the guards who watched him. Thoy wero told that Consul Maza would pay them for their services. Sarabia 'a kidnaping nnd his release later from Hcrmosillo to Hanger Cap tain Wheeler and Public Examiner Fos ter, who represented Governor Kib bey, has been ono of tho most sensa tional events in Arizona in sovcral years. If Maza is convicted a penitentiary sontenco will bo imposed in all proba bility. Ho will- also loso his official standing. THE STORY OF THE ILL FATED ORINDELL EXPEDITION AH Arizona is supposedly familiar with tho Btory of Professor Thomas Grindcll of Douglas, formerly of Tuc son, who, with thrco companions, David Ingram, Jack Hoffman nnd Olan Halls, left the Smelter City in March, 1905, and nono returned with tho exception of Hoffman, who mado the journey from tho west const, oppositq the Tiburon islands, after several months of terrible hardship. It will bo with interest, therefore that Arizonnns will read the acocunt of the journey of tho lost party and tho subsequent searching pnTty which went out under tho leadership of E. P. Grin dcll of Tucson, a brother of the unfor tunnto leader of the first expedition, who has written nn account of the ad ventures ho experienced during the scirch, which appears in tho Wide World magazine under tho title of "The Lost Explorers: Tho Mystery ob a Vanished Expedition." Grindcll portrays in strong language the vain endeavors of tho searchers to find his brother und of tho clues that were found which tended to show that they never would bo locatod. Tho story ends with tho paragraph: "Captain Rynniug gathered all tho camp valuables nnd then, sad at heart and sorely puzzled, he wont back to Douglus. Tho exact fato of Grindcll, Ingram and Kails will probably never bo known; tho terriblo Tiburon country keeps its secrets only too woll." E. P. Grindcll, author of tho story nnd leader of tho expedition which went in search of his brother, is well known in Arizona, making periodical trips through tho territory as tho agent of tho International Correspondence Schools of Scrnnton, Pn., for which ho is tho territorial agont, says tho Star.
