Had a Rat In His Fockot
For over an hour the other day Ser
geant Gardner of the Twenty-third dis
trict carried a big rat that was very
much alive about in tho side pocket of
his uniform coat. It was not until he
reached tho station houso and placed
his hand into his pocket that he know
anything about it. Then ho becamo
very much awaro of the rodent's exist
ence, for it bit his linger. The ser
geant lot out a yell that not only star
tled Lieutenant Blaney, who was with
him at tho time, but aroused tho whole
houso force. A second later tho animal
leaped from tho pocket and began to
run for cover. Lieutenant, sergeants,
turnkevs and cops joined in trying to
round up the rat, but in spite of their
chasing and stamping, it managed to
get away. Sergeant Gardner thinks that
tho animal crept into his pocket while
tho coat was hanging in tho patrol
house. Philadelphia Record.
