hor little family, and was undor fierce
' fire, but she stuck to her post.
It was in her home on tho night of
tho first day's fight that Generals How
ard, Sickles and Slocum held n council
and awaited Meade's coming. Mrs.
Thorn gave them much valuable infor
mation as to tho topographical condi
tions of tho country, which they made
uso of in forming tho battle line.

Stingy Man's Estato Settled
Heirs of Patrick Cooncy reached an
agreement today in tho probate court
by which tho wny is opened for the sot
tlement of his estato aftor five years
of legal warfare. Cooncy was a sectipn
hand on the Valley Branch railroad,
and saved $1.",000 from pay that never
exceeded $1.50 a day.

twenty-five miles to Hartford. Fearing
damago to his boots, he removed them
