Boston, March 15.-The final issues in the transportation strike here win narrowed today. The issue is now be tween the New York and New Haven, and Boston and Maine Railroads. The only conoession made by tlhvie rail roads is to take back as many men as possible without prejudice, but twen ty thousand strikers refuse to yield. Team arivers, who returned yester day, greatly relieved the congested freight houses. Expressmen and long shoremen are nearly all working as usual. MISS PECK'S WEDDING A Fashionable Chicago Marriage ----The Groom Is R. T. Bien of San Francisco. Chicago, Ill.. March 15.-A fashion able wedding in Chicago society today was that of Miss Arline Peck, daugh ter of Mr. Ferdinand Peck. Commis sioner to the Paris Exposition. and Robert Taylor Bien, of San Fran 000oisoo. It was in Paris that the bride of to day first met her flanoe. Mr. Bien was there studying music. Since her debut several years ago Mrs. Bien has been a great social favorite, both in this oity and abroad. During her father's stay in Paris she was noted as a delightful hostess at her mother's weekly receptions, where her unaffect ei singing and charming manner won her a wide circlo of friends. After the return of Mr. and Mrs. Peck to America, the daughter remained abroad and devoted herself to the study of music. Mr. and Mrs. Bien will spend their honeymoon in Enrope. F ERA N CLUBS Los Angeles Is Preppring to En tertain. Los Anglees, Cal., March 15.-Al though the date of the annual meeting of the General Federation of Women's Clubs in this oity is more than a month off the local preparations for the reception and entertainment of the delegates are about complete. Thee club women of all parts of California have o-operated with those of Los Angeles and the arrangements are being made on an elaborate scale. Applications for accomodations mndil oate that the attendence will be the t largest and most representative in the history of the federation's conven tlons. Notwithstanding the great di tanoe hundreds of delegates and visi. tors will come from the Eastern states while the middles states and far west will be better represented than ever before. TO EXCLUDE SALOONS Spirited Election Contest is in Progress at Greeneville, Tennessee. Greenville, Tenn., March 15.-One of the most spirited election contests In the history of this section is in progress in Gerenville today. The Is sue is the proposition to re-incorpo rate the town, but the liqr.or question is the real bone of conttntion. The town reoently surrendered its charter because of the provisions therein per mitting the sale of liquor. The prop osition now is to reincorporate and exolade the saloons. The temperance element haa conducted a warm cam paign and entertains high hopes of victory at the polls today. HELEN OOULD'S GIFT. $413,000 for Creation of a Branch of the Y M C A New York, March 16.-The new na val brancb of the Young Men's Chris tian AssooatIon, in Brooklyn, is now completed and will be ready for ocon opancy within a few days. This branch of the Y. M. O A. owes its existence to KiE Helen Gould, who Sgave $18,000 for its creation. The building is the best of its kind in the country. It is a club and hotel in one, aad its prieipal feature will be its magifaoent roof gardens.
