feitures and customs duties amount
ing to $3.624,121. have been brought
by the Ulnited States government
against the American Sugar Refin
ingl Company. The first of th'h suits
was for $1,500,000 and was filed with
the courts on October 16, and the
others were filed October 28. The
filing of the action was kept from
public knowledge until after the elec
tion.
