Karpe's Big Sale The big sale at Karpe's began on Thursday and this store has been the centre of attraction since its in ception. The sale will continue 15 days, from March 17th to April 2d, during which time a stock of mer chandise valued at $0t,000 will be disposed of at clearance figures. The Civic League recently organ ized in St. Joseph will hold its next regular meeting at the school house in this town after the close of school on Thursday, March 24th. The pub lic generally is invited to attend the meeting of this organization and to become members thereof. The League has at this time un der consideration the improvement of the school property and general ly all interests of the public school in this town. Rateliff, President of the Board of Suvervisors of Adams county, was a visitor to Tensas parish this week as guest of his sons, Messrs. A. B. and C. V. Rateliff. The Jury commission of Tenss parish met at the Court House on Friday and drew the grand and petti juries for the regular April terip of Court. The list appears elsewhere. Mrs. W. J. Steen and daughter, Miss Amalia, left this week for Washington, D. C., where Miss Amhlia will resume her studies at Chevy Chase College. Mr. Steen accompanied them to Jackson, Mim. WHEREAS by the Act o Cogr s appsoved July 2, 1909, the Thirteenth Decennial (mnss t the United States is to be taken, beginning on the ifteenth day of April, nhieteen hundred and ten; and WHEREAS a correct enumeration of the population every ten years is required by the Constitution of the United States for the purpose of determining the representation of the sev-. eral States in the House of Representatives; and WHEREAS it is of the utmost importance to the inter ests of all the people of the United States that this census should be a complete and accurate report of the population and resources of the country: Now, therefore, I, Wru.rA HOWADn Tarr, President of the United States of America, do hereby declare and make known that, under the act aforesaid, it is the duty of every person to answer all questions on the census schedules ap plying to him and the family to which he belonp, and to the farm occupied by him or his family, and that any adult refusing to do so is subject to penalty. The sole purpose of the eensus is to secure general statis tical Information regarding the population and resources of the country, and replies are required from individuals only in order to permit the compilation of such general statistics. The census has nothing to do with taxation, with army or jury service, with the compulsion of school attendance, with the regulation of immigrotion, or with the enforcement of any national, state or local law or ordinance, nor can any person be harmed in any way by furnishing the information required. There need be no fear that any disclosure will be made regarding any individual person or his affairs. For the due protection of the rights and interests of the persons furnishing information every employee of the Census Bureau is prohibited, under heavy penalty, from diselosing any in formation which may thus come to his knowledge. Another attempt was made ion a different part of the place, when a 12-inch pipe was sunk to a depth of 172 feet with happiest result, a splendid stream of fresh water, the first secured in the par ish, averaging 2600 gallons a min ute, being brought in. Mr. Gorton states the water is soft, clear and pure, having some 72 feet of screen pipe at the bottom. He will plant about 260 acres in rice this year. Mr. W. M. Davidson has pur chased a Cadillac 80 horse-power touring car. This makes twenty automobiles in Tenses parish, rep resenting an investment of some thirty thousand dollars, and it is understood that several more are - coming this summer.
