('linton, who offers one Cyphers' (;O-egg incubator for sale. Mlrs. Clinton bought this incubator only last year, at a cost of $15.00, but has concluded to dispose of same and will take $10.00 for it. ''hth incubator is as good as new and she will also include with same :, hoverer which she had made at additional cost. The incubator has umaile gWood hatches, but the inroads made on her chickens by the rats have so discouraged Mrs. Clinton that she has concluded not to raise any more chickens and accordingly offers her incubator for sale. It is considered a bargain at the price. Mr. B. D. Smith, "Wavertree" plantation, Goldman P. 0., has a notice elsewhere to-day, offering his services as plantation manager. on salary and commission basis if de sired. Mr. Smith has had fifteen years experience in planting and is thoroughly conversant with the art of[ tilling the soil and working negro labor and has always made good crops where same was possible. He prefers to remain in Tensas and refers to Mr. N. B. Hunter, Water proof, for whom he worked about eight years, andti to fIon. E. C. Rhodes, Consuelo P. O , Concordia parish, for whom he worked five years. These gentlemen will cheer fully recommend Mr. Smith as a good and practical farmer, attentive to his business, sober, upright and reliable. We hope Mr. Smith will secure a place in Tensas, as he is a good man and good citizen and we would be loath to lose him from our parish. We are pleased to learn of the improved condition of Mrs. Fred Skinner, who was operated on some time since' at New Orleans for ap ipndicitis. Mrs. Skinner has re covered sufficiently to leave Hotel l~eu and is now visiting her family at Ponchatoula, La. She will re turn to St. Joseph soon. M r. W. R. Baker has made the second cutting of his Suundan grass crop, just 38 days from first cut ting, which he' reports possibly twice as thick as the first crop and ranges from three to four lest in height. IEATI IF FAAKE WATSIH. After a lingering illness of several months death came to relieve the sufferings of Mr. Franke Watson on Sunday evening at 4:30 o'clock. Mr Watson was born in Tensas parish about sixty-two years ago, where he has lived all of his life except a few years spent in the City of New Orleans. He was a son of the old Watson family, one of the pioneer families of this section of Louisiana. His family was among the early settlers of North Louisiana, and played a conspicuous part during the war between the States, his father~having at his own expense fitted out a battery of ar tillery for the Confederate Army, which was known as Watson's Bat tery. During the past few years he made his home with his nephew, Mr. Oliver L. Watson, at his home on Lake Bruen Island, on land originally entered by his ancestors from the National Government. Living in the country of his birth, he had built up for himself a great host of friends, who were saddened to hear of his passing away. Kind, generous, unselfish, always think ing of others instead of himself, always ready to stretch forth his hand to help a more unfortunate brother, he will be greatly missed by those who were glad to be num bered among his friends. He was a man without an enemy, and one of whom it can truly be said, to his everl:sting credit and honor,-He loved his fellow man. He leaves surviving him a wife, two sons and two daughters, all residents of the City of New Orleans, and his most devoted nephew, Mr. O. L. Watson, of this parish. To his family and many friends throughout the State the Gazette extends its heartfelt sympathies. Rev. and Mrs. Geo. Fox and little son were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Baker last Sunday and Monday. Mrs. A. J. Gibson has returned from a visit to New Orleans, where she went to consult a specialist, and sincerely trust her health is improved. The Gazette acknowledges receipt of the following invitation: The honour of yor~presence at the marriage of Mrs. Lydia Cooke WIckllfe to Mr. William tone Homes on Wedneeday July the fourteenth nineteen hundred uand fifteen at soon St. James Eplacopal Church Baton Rouge Louisana The groom-to-be, Col. The bride-elect, Mrs. Wickliffe, widow of the late Congressman Wickliffe, is a lady of many rare charms of both mind and person and is univer -ally beloved by a large circle of friends both in this State and at Washington City. In common with the many friends of this popular couple, the GaUutte extends sier eat good wishes for a long and hap. r wud Md ll. IAT ISF P.. SMUITL Our community was deeply shocked on Friday evening to learn of the death of our fellow parish ioner, Philip C. Smith, long a resi dent of Tensas parish. Mr. Smith was born in the State of Mississippi in the year 1867 bpt moved to Ten sms parish during his early youth, where he has spent the greater por tion of his life. No man in the parish stood higher in the estima tion of his fellow man than did Phil Smith; honest, always sincere, benevolent, ever ready to streteb forth the hand of charity to those who called upon him in the name of charity, he knew no enemies, but every man was his friend. It is with feelings of deepest regret that we chronicle his death. He left surviving him, his de voted wife, Mrs. Jessie 8kinner, and his two daughters, Katie and Fan nie and his son Fred Smith, and to these and his many friends the Gazette extends its heartfelt sym pathy. His remains were taken to Natchez for interment. Mr. Smith represented the Fourth Ward on the Board of School Directors of this parish for nineteen consecutive years, was always an enthusiastic member of the Boar and took an active interest in the noble cause of education. Miss Hazel Dixon, of Natchez, is visiting Miss Marjorie Goodwine, at "Oneonta." Dr. Hunter and little daughter, of Jackson, Miss., were guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Rowan, at "Ridgeland." % Quite a large crowd came up from Waterproof last Tuesday to attend the special meeting of the Police Jury and the meeting of the Parish Executive Committee. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Byram and son, James Edward, Jr., are visit ing his parents in Caddo parish and will come to St. Joseph next week to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laosey. Mrs. Annie C. Macpherson, who was called to Natchez last week by the illness and death of her aunt, Mrs. Flinn, was accompanied home by Mrs. John Foggo, of that city, who is her guest. The Fourth of July was celebrat ed considerably in St. Joseph last Saturday and again on Monday by the colored population and ball games and other amusements were the order of the day. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Goldman, Jr., returned Sunday from a visit to hea parents, Hon. and Mrs. Geo. Spen cer, at Tallulah. They have as their guests Miss Rosa Sevier and Mr. Mason Spencer of Tallulab. Mr. Emile Mayer returned last Saturday from New Orlusaa, where he had been on a visit to his family. He was accompanied home by his son, Mr. Albert Mayer.
