Miss Ogden is grand-daughter of the late Capt. W. F. Ogden of Concordia parish and the late Dr. Wm. Me Pheeters of Natche. , both of whom are fondly remembertd by many ol ft erds in this p ri h. She is gradu ate of the Russian school of dancing &-nd by reason of unusua: grace and skill is already making quite a name for herself in her chosen profession, her toe dancing being exceptionally good. Miss Ogden hopes to pursue her studies in the terpsichorean art at New York Conservatory and is giving these exhibitions as aid to her pur pose. Much anxiety has been felt in this community all the past week for Hackley Scott, who underwent op eration for appendicits at the Nat chez Sanitarium. Hackley was seem ingly quite well before noon last Saturday but during the afternoon was seized with great pain in his side and suffered so intensely that a phyician was called, who immedi atily pronounced it acute ippendi citis and urged that he be taken to Natchez at once for operation, which was done and operation was per formed soon after arrival, that night. WVe were greatly relieved to learn that the operation was successful, but for some time reports as to his con dition were not the best and he did not rest as well as was hoped. To ward the week-end though better news comes, with more eom forting assurance of his early convat esence. Hackley is son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Scott, for many years residents of Tensas perish, but now residing in Mississippi, and lives here with his brother, Mr. J. Wesley Scott, and attends the St. Joseph High School, where he is very pop ular alike with faculty and pupils, and the sincerest hope is entertained by all friends that he may soon be fully restored to health. Miss Irene Bewley, reader and story teller, representing the White & Myers Lyceum Agency of Zanes City, was a visitor to St. Joseph this week and gave a most excel lent reading at the Blackman The atre on Thursday night, which was enjoyed to the fullest by all who were present. It was unfortunate that the attendance was not larger, for at least two measons. Those who didn't attend missed a treat, not to be had often, and the indifferent support affected the reeeipt t. versely, absorbing all proceeds from sale of season-tickets to date, which means that unless the attendanee is better at the next number a dellt will be caused, which will mean that an assessment on the several Igentle men promising the guarantee will of necessity have to be mdl. Miss Bewley's program was well selected and heautifully rendered; evidenling long and eareful training and the possession of mundual histrionic tal ent She is quite the peer of any of her prefemslon and better amusement in ,her line cannot bp promursed. Numbers to follow will be along other lines which we sincerely hope will be shown greater appr.eciation by the amusement loving publi: amd that appreciation evidenced by great er attendance, else as stated a dis. agreeable doty will fall to somebody to make up the shortage.
