CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE TAKES
QUICK ACTION
"The project for a celebration upon the day when
the Washington volunteers return home is an excettent
one l wsakl E.O. Graves, presktenl <>f the chtmber <>f
commerce this morning. "I was not present at the
chtmbcf yesterday, being out ti town on other busi
ness, but I will undoubtedly appoint a committee within
i few >.la\-s m accord m c * ith the resolution pasted by
the chamber upon i request vk the city council. It re
quires some thought as to the personnel of the com
mittee."
The Seattle Chamber of Commerce took prompt action yes
terday afternoon in carrying out the recommendation of the City
Council ,,,; Ito the proposed celebration m honor of the Wash
ington volunteers. The resolution passed by the City Council pro
viding for the celebration, signed by President Him hart, Comp
troller Parry and City Clerk Coryell, was read by Secretary
Pro hto the members of the Chamber. Jacob Furth, president of
the -,..-1 Sound National Hank, .it once made a motion that the
Chamber endorse the action of the Gouncil and comply with that
portion of the resolution requesting the Chamber of Commerce to
appoint ten members of the celebration committee, Vice-President
W. I-.. Uoone, who occupied the chair, put the question and it was
carried by unanimous vote.
The suggestion boo been made that the surplus of $340 re
maining in the hands of City Treasurer Poooi from the celebration
of the Fourth of July last year be used as the nucelus for the new
un( j to be raised to celebrate the home-coming of the volunteers.
This suggestion originates with It. W. Chadwick of the Seattle
Argus, who was general secretary of last year's Fourth of July
committee. Mr. Chadwick states that he has conferred with
Mayor Humes, J. A. Moore, Daniel Jones, Julius Redelshcimer nil
members "i the commltte 111 question .in.l that they ire unanl
mously in favor of using the money as suggested.
