Va., and thence across the Back river to .Titnaville, ( )., was made with Ferris &; KaulTman, bridge builders of Pittsburg, for the sum of $402,000, the structure to be completed within ten months from the date of contract. There has been filed in the Wise county court clerk's office for reeorda tion, a deed from Patrick Haganand wife to the Powell's River Coal and Iron company, the consideration of which was ?113,400 85 cash in hand, paid for 14,340.75 acres in fee simple, and 8,347.41 acres coal and mineral right, of Wise county lands. A half crazy negro broke into Christ Church, at Pigg*s Mill, Pitt sylvania county, and carried off all the books belonging to the church. He acted as a home missionary by distributing the books among his acquaintances in the neighborhood. He also carried off the pastor's sur? plice. Some of the books have been recovered. The contract for widening and deepening the Dismal Swamp canal was given out last week, and the work will commence in a few days, The present lock will be enlarged, and the route will be made into a .ship canal, to furnish a continuous I inland waterway from New Y'ork to Florida.
