POLICE JURY. Monday, February 16, 1880. The Police Jury met this day at the courthouse, pursuant to ad journment. Present : Howard Hoffoanir, president ; and Messrs. Broussard. Trahan, Primeaux and Vanslyke. Absent : Messrs. Nunez and Thiheaux. The minutes of the proceedings of the 5th January 1880, were read and adopted, and those of the last meeting of February 2d were read, corrected, and adopted. The president having appointed W. W. Edwards. Esq., a member of the Finance Committee vice A. G. Maxwell, Esq.,, resigned. the said appointment *as concurred in and ratified by this body. Mesar. Nunez and Thibeaux ap peared and took their seats. The following licenses were or dered to be cancelled: No 23, against J. J. Revillon. as retail liquor dealer in 1878. $10. No 7 against , J. Abshire, & license as retail liquor dealer in 1877. $5.00. No 20 against Jules Boudrennx as retail liquor dealer in 1b78, $10. No 16 against Jules Bondreaux. retail merchant in 1877, $15. The Finance Con *ittce of the parish of Vermilion with respect woald make the folowing report, viz :-That we have examined the books and vouchers of the parish Treasurer and Tax Collector for the purpose of making a settle ment with the parish Treasurer, Mr. Isaac Wise, and we find as follows :--That from the 10th day of February 1879. to the 9th day ,of February 1880, inclusive ; the said Treasurer has recei-ed - from M1. C. Broussard, tax eqllector, $6558.61 besides school tax not included. M. C. Broussard ex-Parish Trea surer $ 2656.92 school tax not included J. S. S. Nunez, amount not known. After searching in all' sources accessible, your committee have so far been unable to find any other moneys, with which said Treasurer should be charged ; but it may be possible there may be ohler sums which should becharg ed to him unknown to your com mittee. Your committee has re ceived from said Wise as treasu rer and given our receipt therofor, vouche rs to the amount of $8882. 76 showing that he had paid that amount for the parish, and is enti tiled to a credit for that sum, leav inI a balance in the treasury of $2037.23 on the 9th day of Fehy. 1880. Art I Reso)ved that all th paid warrants issued by this body and turned over by the Parish Treasurer as vouchers in his set tlement with the Finance Commit tee, be destroyed in the' presence of the members of the Police Jury, by burning, and- the remaining vouchers be $led in the archives of this body. The Treasirea.eubmitted a written rport'of the various funds on hand amounting to $2,052.42. Art 2 Resoldgil that all persons before turning over moneys to the parish Treasurer, be required to report to the Finance Committee the amount to be paid over ; and that said committee keep a record of all amounts so reported; that said cynmittee be authorized to purchase at the expense of the parish two suitable account books for their use. I Be it :ordatned by the Police Jury of the parish of Ver milion, that a tax of tea mills Ow the dollar be and the same is he" by assessed, levied and ordered to be collected on all the taxable property situated in this parish for the purpose of meeting the cur rent expenditures incorred durieg the year 1880, in accordance with the budget of expenses already adopted and published in confor mity to law, except within the corporate limits of Abbeville, in which only a tax of three (3) mills on the dollar shall be assessed and collected to defray the criminal expenses incurred said year 188&. The Jury took a recess until 2 o'clock p. in. At the appointed hour the Jury re-assembled ; all the members present. Art 3 Resolved that the com pensation of commissioners and clei ks of election and deputy-sher iffs attending elections at their respective precincts, be and the same' is hereby fixed at two ($2) per diem, and mileage to the seat of justice at the rate of five cents per mile for going and five cents per mile for returning. Mr. James H. Putnam, was ap pointed road overseer for the 1st road district vice M. LT. Eldridge excused. Art 4 Resolved that the sum of fourteen dollars of the license fund'of 1879 be appropriated to pay for bridges in the 1st road district. Art 5 Resolved that the 5th election precinct be changed from the house of Lessin Abshire to that of Paul F. Richard, and that of the 6th precinct to be changed from the house of Robt (4reen to that of Joseph Lemaire. Lrt 6 Resolved that the road running from N. Young's lane to A. Vanslyke's fence, be changed to run from N. Young's lane on lanudefJ.H..Putnam, or on line of J. H. Putnam to corner of Van 4lyke's, thence to on Vanslyke's lines to lines between Vanslyke tnd Mrs. M. A. O'Bryan to the ocad as it now runato Vanslyke's fence. Said Putnam donating aU the road as far as it runs on land worked or fenced by him; and sad Mrs. O'Bryan and Vanslyk' each donating one-half of road as far as it runs between them, not to exceed 20 feet in width each. Resolved, that article 2. adopted January 5th 1880, autho rizing Victor Landry to enclose the line between. himself and A. C. Harrington, be and the same is hereby repealed. Art 8 Resolved that the sum of three hnnded dollars, or so much thereof as may he necessary, be and the same is hereby appropria ted out of the surplus Police Jury funds of 1879 to pay all election expenses incurred during the year 1879. Art 9 Resolved that all the balances remaining on the various funds of 1879, shall constitute a common fund, out of which re maining claims originating in that year shall be paid ; license tax not to be included and shall be a sepa rate fund. The president is authorized to appoint W. W. Edwards, Esqr., Surveyor, to survey the road on the lines between Victor Landry and A. C. !Harrington as laid off by committee to lay off said road according to their report recorded on pa~e 269 Record Book B of the 1'oliec Jury Recods ; expen see of said survey to be paid out of the license funds of 1880. The road overseer of the 1st road dis trict shall be notified by the sur Iveyor to attend said survey and stake off said road.
