This is an impor. teant busineas rule, which should not be overlooked or neglected. Mind your own business. What a man does shows what he is. True piety is no enemy to courtesy. That is beneficial to us which we devote to God. Guitean should be hung on Thanksgiving day. There are three lawyers on each side of the Guitean case. Hanging a man in effigy is about as much fun as making faces at a blind man. A Leadville journalist has shot so many men that he is now spoken of as "the local leaditor." Be courteous with all, but inti mate with few ; and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. THE beautiful crimson blush of nature, without paint, can be im- I parted to the pale cheeks of a sick ly and feeble woman by the use of that great female tonic ENGLISH FEMALE Bivnas. FEMALE Buvrss. An extra session of the legisla ture has been called by Governor bicEnery for the fifth of next month. The object being to reme dy certain defects existing in our law system. An: you distressed with an overloaded stomach ? Are you troubled with headache, dizziness or constipation? Does your head swint? One dose of Bailey's SA LINE APERIENT will give you relief. TANKnSGIVING DAY. - Presi dent Arthur has issued his procla mation setting November 24th as a national thanksgiving day. All denominations are requested to re pair to their places of worship to offer prayers. WE to-day call attention to the advertisement of the PRICKLY AsH BIrrnns, which can be found in another column. These Bitters are made from the purest and best materials, and their tonic and cathartic properties render them superior to all others in dis orders of the Stomach, Bowels, &c. Notwithstanding the protracted spell of rainy weather the roads are in good condition, and the prairie has been drying fast. The greatest sufferers from it were the cattle, they have lost flesh by ex posure to the cold north wind which blew whilst the rain was' pouring down. We hope that the coming winter will not be as so veset n stock as the last one, a wet ueam~n always entails a great deal of suffering to them. THE EXTRA SESSION. The Governor has made a great blunder we think in convening an extra session of the legislature. In our opinion there exists no such extraordinary occasion for an extra session as the constitution contemplates. We think the leg. islature is wtel y unable to give any relief to 'h~ difficulties com plained of. In the first place pust expe rience shows that but very little can be reasonably expected in the way of wisdom from the personnel of the legislature. Its past exis tence has demonstrated that it is not a very wise or industrious body that but little good ought to be hoped of it. In the. second place the evils complained of, an empty treasury, cannot be remedied by the wisest legislature. The expenses of the session are only an additional drain on the` already exhausted treasury. How can a legislature fill the empty coffers of the State ? They will be asked to make anew Revenue law. Why should there be a new Revenue law? The pres ent one has never yet been tried has never been faithfully executed. Do they expect to make a law that will executritself ? If the newly proposed law is no better executed than the old one, then it will prove just as great a failure. If by a new Revenue law is meant that the rate of taxation and li censes are to be increased, then we wish to serve notice on the Governor and the legislature that the people twil not submit to any in crease of taxation under existing circumstances. If Gov. MeEnery can't run the machine on the taxa tion now provided for, let him and his subordinates step down and woalk out, and others will read ily be found who can and will do it. The financial troubles of Lou isiana arise from wont of a due enforenment of the Revenue law, and from the enormous waste and peculation in the public funds. The remedy lies through the Exe cutive and not the Legislative department of the government. No legislation will ever remedy the existing evil. We have had more than a plenty of Revenue laws already, each one in its tarn just as unavailing as its predecessor. We need no more of them, or of extra sessions. We may have further to say on this subject here after. ENGLISH Fsx.ALE BITmuns is in. tended for young girls as well as married ladies, who have by some exposure, become irregular, pale and feeble, with headache, lea corrhmea, pain in the side and back, falling of the womb, or fe male weaknesses, or excesses. It use strengthens and tones the stomach, invigorates the nerves, imparts iron to the blood, corrects irregular uterine action and re moves unnatural obstructions. WHOLESALE DESTRUCTION OF BATS.-A. large quantity of bats, were killed in the loft of Mrs. L. Abadie's corner building last and this week. The implements of destruction, which dealt death amongst them were brimstone, spirit of turpentine and carbolic acid. How efficacious all these remedies are we do not pretend to know ; but we are under the im pression that nothing short of destruction, with sticks or of powder and shot will rid that house of the detestable inmates. Sugar Planter : An egg famine prevails in this section of country. Whether the hens have become disgusted with the business, or the roosters have taken to evil courses, are mysteries none may fathom. All we know is that eggs is skase ? A sentimental fellow at Wrights town, Minn., wrote to a young girl that he would hang himself if she did not marry him. As he was a stranger, she took his queer missive as an insulting joke, and replied angrily that he would please her greatly by choosing the tree which grew near her bed. room window. When she looked out next morning there hung his lifeless body. AN active brain, sparkling wit, a cheerful mind, a brighf eye, a robust body, pure rich blood and a vigorous bounding circulation, add many charms to female socie ty-yet, ah ! how few ladies can boast of all these signs of health ! While they remain victims to those terrible female complaints, they will be compelled to be mere feeble, delicate drones upon socie ty. You can be restored to health and happiness by the use of ENG LISH FEMALE Bii'rass. Tan WATxnu.--After a pro tracted spell of rainy weather we are treated with a clear atmos phere, bright sunshine, and then cool weather. The last spell of rain it was feared, would have been followed by a severe spell of cold, but fortunately no such change took place. We are very glad to see that the farmers will be able to push ahead the work which now demands immediate at tention. By the time this Num ber is issued many sugar farmers will be busy boiling sugar, nearly all in fact. Many of our town readers will eat fresh syrup soon. fromt our eftdyanec.. Opelousas Courier : In view of the great scarcity of corn, we would suggest to our planters the propriety, or rather necessity of planting some oats to make up their deficit of forage. The rust proof oats grow and yield well in this parish, and now is the time to plant them. They will ripen the latter part of April or first of May. Lafayette Advertiser :A painful accident occured to Mr. William Walker, son of Dr. W. E. Walker of the Junction last Mon. day. While engaged in running his father's gin he had one hand and arm seriously cut and mutilated. When heard from he was doing as well as conlibe ex pected ; we hope that the lfferer will recover without the loss of the wounded member. Thibodaux Sentinel : The colored citizens propose to give a series of entertainments at the Corporations school house, during Christmas~ holidays, for the purpose of raising means to prolong the session of said school. Every parent whose children attend that school should render assistance and make the same a grand success. Markaville Bulletin : The weather for the week ending October 30th has been extremely unfavorable for cottonpicking. Continued rains, with high wind and beating showers had almost stopped operations and occasioned a great loss of the fleecy staple by shedding and sprouting. Lake Charles Echo : If the rain, which has fallen daily this week, continues much longer, peo. ple in towns will wish they had procured their winter "supply of fire wood in October. The cold snap and bad roads last winter sent fire wood up to twenty dollars a cord in Houston, Texas. Washington Argus : The recent heavy rains, and the rise in the "Father of Watters" have given "Old Courtablean" a new lease of life for useless and importance. The largest steamboats are now able to reach our wharves as in "times of yore." The barge fleet of our city is already in motion for the waters of the Bceuf and Cocodrie, to bring to our port the vast produce of the regions fertilized by these streams-and from afar may be beard the regu lar stroke by which commnodore O'Conklin and his active men are fitting out other vessels for the cruise. MARRIED. On Thursday evening November 17th 1881, by Rev. Father Md hault at the Catholic Church of Abbeville, our Mayor, Mr. Leonce Perret to Miss Louisa Leblano, of this Parish. Our most sincere wishes for the happiness of our friend Leonce, in his matrimonial voyage, is ex tended, may his felicity be as una loyed and as serene as the cloud less sky, may sunshine illume the path of this union of pure hearts ; aLd wisdom always direct them to that endless bliss in the bright future of immortality. Having obtained the agency of this celebrated soap for Abbeville and vicinity, 1 append the opin ion of some of our best people as to its merits. We have been using for the last 3 months the Dobbins' Electric soap, made by I. L. Cragin & 06 Philadelphia, Pa., and find that it washes and cleans the clothes more rapidly and more thoroughly and is in the end cheaper than any other soap we have ever used in our family. We can heartily recom mend it and a single trial will convince all ol the correctness of our assertions. WK. MPUTON. E. I. ADDISON. ARCHIE YOUNG. A. Lscoun.
