The following report of the Treasurer was submitted' and on motion the same was adopted, Abbeville, July 29th 1882. On motion the school in east portion rf 22d ward relocated on land belonging to Mr Emile Thibodeaux about 4 acres from th,. present location. Ot. motion the appointment of teachers for the different schools was postoned un til next meeting. The Board of School I)irectors met this day according to adjourn ment, with the following named nmemblers present. W W Edwards, president and John Morgan, J Nugier, Nathan Perry, M C Broussard and .1 N Williams. Alsent J II Putnam. The minutes of the last meet ing were read and same were adopted. J N Williams. chairman pro tern of the finance committee hav ing reported favorably on the claim of Mr. I) M Lyons for ser vices as Assessor, amounting to $47.00, the same was allowed, and ordered to be paid out of the con tingent fund. On motion the report of Mr Isaac Wise was referred back to him with a request to himn to make a more explicit report specifying the source and date of receiving fuuds, what kind, whether poll or mill tax and for what year levied also to state the name of party to whom and from what ward said funds were paid out, also to re; quest Mr Wise to sign said report olfficially. On motion resolved that the tax collector G B Shaw be reques ted to furnish this Board a com plete schedule list by wards of all persons liable to pay a poll tax in this parish as required to 'do by Sec 1-act No 66 approved June 30th 1882. On motion resolved that the attorney for the School Board in case of School Board vs G B Shaw, proceed to collect said jugmnent in said case at once and report thereon when collected. On motion resolved that G B Shaw be required to pay over to the 'Treasurer of this Board the entire amount of poll tax and one mill tax levied-for the year A D 1881 on or before the 2nd Mon day of November 1882 and should said collector claim that any portion of said taxes could not be collected by due diligence at the proper time, that he be required to furnish this Board with a list of the names of such tax debtors and the amount of tax owing by them on or before the day aforesaid. On motion the Bord adjourned to meet on Monday the 13th of November 1882, at 11 o'clock a m, member, will please be more prompt in attendance. The Board of School Directors of Vermilion parish met this day in regular session, members pres ent : Messrs. M. C. Broussard. J. N. Willianms, Nathan Perry. Absent : J. Nugier, John Mor gan, and J. II. Putnam. W. W. Edwards having pre sented his credentials as a member vice, A. D. IMartin, resigned, the same was accepted. On motion, M. C. Briussard was elected as temporary chair man. On motion Mr. IW. W. Ed wards was elected President of the Board. The Secretary having presented the account of Mr. Isaac Wise, for services rendered as Treasurer, the same was referred to the fi nance committee. On motion the president W W Edwards was reauested to act as a member of the finance conunittee. The account of D M Lyons, as assessor, was also referred to the finance committee. On motion, resolved that W W Edwards be and is hereby employ ed to survey the See 16, T1' 13, S R 4 E, in 2nd ward and lay out said Sec in 80 acre lots, and re port at the next meeting of this Board how much* of said Sec is now under cultivation. On motion the sum of $125,00 or so much thereof as may le necessary. was appropriated out of the funds belonging to the low er portion of the 2nd ward, to purchase materials to build a school house, on land to be dona ted, provided that Mr Emile Thibodeaux comes forward and makes title to said land in favor of the School Board, prior to te drawing of said fugds from the Treasury. Messrs Jules Thibo deaux, W W Keuhling and Emile Broussard is hereby requested to receive tnd disburse sid funds. ttn motion the committee ap pointed to purchase a situation (or lot) for a school house in the 3rd ward is hereby requested to report what progress they have made, to this board at the next meeting. The bid of E. I. Addison to do the printing for this Board -(such as notices and minutes of the Board) for one year at the sum and price of Sixty ($60.00) dol lars, was accepted. The Council met this day in regular session ; there were pres cnt R. C. Smedes, Mayor ; and Messrs. Lastie Broussard, J. J. Abadie and O. Bourque, alder men. Absent :-Solomon Wise. The minutes of the previous meeting of the Council wire read and adopted. O. Bourque of the committee appointed to confer with E. I. Ad dison, Publisher of the MERIDION aL in regard to publishing the proceedings of the Council, &c., reported that Mr. Addison had agreed to do the printing for the price of Seventy-five dollars per year. On motion of Mr. Broussard the contract for printing and pub lishing for the Corporation for the present year was given to the said E. I. Addison at Seventy-five dol lars per year. The report of W. B. White, Treasurer was presented & read. On motion of Mr Broussard, the same was adopted and ordered to be spread on the minutes. To the Hon. Mayor and Alder men of the Town of Abbeville. I hereby present my report as Treasurer for the quarter ending Oct. 6th 1882. General fund.
