The subjoined correspondence in a manner explains itself : GRETNA, LOUISIANA. 4-22-1886. Editor Meridional, Abbeville, La. Sir :-Mrs. Iflldenbrand of the Courier requests the editors of each paper in L],uii:ina to irnore the Gretna Sun i trihe way of exchaning. I trust you will disconutinue sending your valuable papeC .to the Sun at once and greatly oblige, C. A. M. MEIADOWS, Pub. Now when it is taken into consid eration that for more than 6 months, in fact since the adivet Mr. Mead ow's into the Courier office and the good graces of its fair editress, that sprightly journal has most signally ignored us in the way of an exchage and left us entirely dependant upon the offending Sun for light regard ing matters and things transpiring in that locality. As to what griev ances may exist between the Courier and Sun we are ignorant, and until better informed must continue to oc cupy a neutral position. We are too thoroughly American and too deeply imbued with the spirit of fair play to espouse or countenance the boycott. If we were Meadows and the Sun's version of the interview the correct one. some one bearing a striking resemblance to Mr. Wood roff would have been afforded an opportunity to knock us out in four rounds under Marquis of Queens bury rules. Verbum sat sap. On Tuesday morning April 27, 1886, after a long and painful illness. George M. Eldredge, Esq.; represen tavive from this parish, quietly pass ed away at his home, about 6 miles from town. He was a man of. firm integrity, spotless honor, and strong convictions. So highly impressed were our people with his mental and moral merit that they chose him (much against his own inclinations and despite his advancing years.) by an overwhelming majority to repre sent them in the legislature. Here lie soon made his mark. In his death his family have lost a loving parent, his friends a prudent counselor, the pariah an honored citizen and a wise and faithful official. His funeral which took place Wednesday at the Masonic Cemetery. and was well at tended notwithstanding the forbid ding aspect of the weather.
