Naval Detention Camp at Port Royal,
8. C., in tow of the tug Oseceola. No
one was aboard the Wicomico. The
Osceola is now at Buford, S. C.
The Wicomice was a government
tug used here as a naval station ten
der, taking the employes to and fro.
She left here with the Petrel to be
assigned to other stations.
Friday, at noon, Oscar Marcour, who

mitted some time between Wedensday
and Friday, the miscreant leaving no
clew.
A cave-in of the embankment at the
head of Pelican avenue is causing
much worriment to residents of Al
giers. A section about 50 feet wide
and extending about 30 feet back into
the levee, slid into the river at 3 p. m.
Thursdpy. A pile driving boat has
been stationed at the gap to prevept a
further encroachment of the water.
Work will be begun on the levee at
the slightest sign of disintegration.
The sloughing away of the embank
ment occurred without the slightest
warning. The levee was thought to
be in good condition, and it was con
sidered that all danger of such a con
tingency had passed as the levee had
withstood the pressure of the high wa
ter, and the length of time elapsing
since the recession of the flood was
considered ample for the bank to have I
thoroughly dried out and become solid. t
The cave-in was caused by the rising q
of the surface of the mattress at that r
point.

The Regular Dem
ocratic Ticket.
The regular Democratic organiza
tion, which is headed by Mayor Martin
Behrman, and which is termed by the
so-called opposition, as "The Ring,"
have placed before the voters of Al
giers for their approval on September
3rd, a ticket which is represented by
men of high standing and who deserve
the support of every good regular Dem
ocrat. Whether or not it is The Ring,
or what you may call it, it is, never
theless, the regular Democratic party
which has brought success to our dis
trict in more ways than one. Whether
or noryou belong to this regular party,
or whether you have fallen off and be
come a Goo-{Goo, because you did not
get one of the jobs, should not stand
In the way of your doing your duty in
casting your vote for the regular ticket.
We have benefited in Algiers under the
regime of the regular Democratic par
ty; we have prospered, and we may
reasonably expect a contiquance of
this prosperity if we are successful in
this election. A news item in The
Herald last week showing what the
Goo-Goos have done for Algiers in
changing their administration in the
Levee Board, which caused a loss to
our district of over $9,000, shows
what might be expected should it be
possible that they be successful, but
we should feel no alarm, the well
thinking citizen is going to vote for his
own protection, which he will find be
If the regulars are a set of thieves,
black-legs and crooks, of which they
have been accused by the so-called op
position, is it not strange they hold
their respective and honorable posi
tions? Why is it that the Good Gov.
ernment League does not enforce the
law and have all the Regulars put in
jail? Their arguments for good gov
ernment are so thin as to have no
weight.
In another column of The Herald we
publish the Regular ticket, and it is
the duty of all of our citizens to vote
that ticket, whether they belong to the
regular or opposition party.
