Let us make every effort and every appeal to the boys of our town to stop the destruction of trees which are beingp lanted out this year by the New Orleans Parking Commission and by property holders. It is hard to believe that some boys are so devoid of reason and training that they cannot see the value and importance of preserving these trees, which are planted at a great expense, but the greatest value is th Ingth of time that is wasted by peeling the bark from a tree which always ends in its destruction. Let us try and educate our boys through their school teachers, through their parents, through their associates, by giving an occasional lecture on this subject; even, it may be necessary at times to apply a switch cut from one of the trees. Our town will be beautiful in a few years if these trees are permitted to grow. The elm trees which have been planted on Teche street may have been already destroyed by boys, who try their pocket knives on the bark. We here make an appeal to the boys to leave these young trees alone; it is not only mischievous but criminal to tamper with them. The boys should also remem ber that there are ordinances covering the mutilation and destruction of trees and shrubbery, and if all other efforts fail to bring the boys to their senses, the matter will be placed before the police authorities. The trees must be left to grow and thrive, if we desire to beautifuy our town, and in order to thrive the boys must help to protect instead of to destroy them. -FURNITURE HOUSE WANTED. It has also been rumored not. about that the company is looking for * a site for the establishment of a local hospital on our side of the river for eni- the benefit of their employees. That the shops are working in full force can ley, not be denied and the fact that ships are now loading on this side of the riy, river, gives us confidence that the ert other reports which were circulated 56t, will also come about as a fact. -old When Mr. Sherridan first came here md- to assume charge of the M.
