Mr. Tansey is well known here In our town, he having preached many ser mona in the Methodist Church when visiting here. His many friends here will regret to learn of his Illness. Toward the close of the term the Belleville school pupils took part In the test for accuracy and skill in arithmetical computation and made a standing seventh in the city. 2:: per cent above the city average. This test was conducted by visiting princi pals in all public schools. A large sheet of paper was given each pupil. Spaces, ruled off, had the problems and room for their solution. Master Robert Kennedy was the successful competi tor in the "free for all" contest opened by the Jesuit high school. Through his splendid showing young Kennedy will be one of the five lucky individu als to receive a scholarship to the Jesuits High School. While this is a compliment to the boys who successfully reached this coveted goal, it is also a recognition of Miss Lizzie Kelly's ability. Many of our young men today who hold re sponsible positions are the product of McDonogh No. 4. and received their education and their training under the tutorship of Miss Lizzie Kelly. CROMBIE-KARR. A pretty home wedding of the past week was that of Miss Leona Karr and George Gromble, which took place at the home of the bride's mother in Vallette street. The house was beautifully decorat ed, and under an arch of ferns and daisies, the groom awaited the com ing of the bride. The bride, who wore a very pretty gown, was attended by her sister, Miss Edna Karr, and Francis Richardson was the groom's best man. The impressive ceremony was per formed by Rev. LaMothe of St. Paul's church. Mr. and Mrs. ('romble will reside with the bride's mother at 218 Vallette street, where they will be pleased to receive their many friends. For the first time in three days, mes sages were sent out by the naval sta tio-'s wireless Tuesuay afternoon It took that time to repair the damage done the twenty-five-foot aerial pole, which was split in twain during the heavy thunderstorm Saturday at noon. The damage was comparatively trif ling. though workmen found it hard to repair the pole, due to its position on top of. a tall smokestack. The streak of lightning that did the damage was a peculiar one, inasmuch as it allowed the receiving of nm.ssages, thoutgh none could be sent. LITTLE WATER MEIION PARTY. A water melon party was held at the home of Mrs. Desmond on S-guin street on Tuesday evening by a crowd of young folks who enjoyed themselves as well as the water melon.
