A Fortunate Parish.
'Ihle .nph'le of ('laitorne have so long
beel favored with lirat-rate parish ofic.ials,
that they can hardly appreciate themr as
houldn. The fact, however, that our parish
,ilw.s are filled by emiiet and competent
,ren is owing to the good judgnment of the
l,wl., in making their selection.
Ircw Ferguson, clerk of the court, is
mut.,rnally recoguircd to be the cleverest
mum inl the parish. He is te.side that a
. anlule nlUd holtnt ofticial, who has learnedi
1 l, duties lfilly andl discarges them well.
For the mauy kithdtlus he shows others he
"ill sowine iay receive his reward.
We debht if thelre is a better parish judlge

well tup with his businaes, and while hik

IInIlsilgent to tax payers aA a regard to his

The service., of Johni IR. Itailise.y as
parish Itenrler, are simply indliapenlsale.
We have not a dboll,t buit take hism all in

Murder.
On lalday evening, just after dlark, two
unknown men entered the cabin of S4eaborn
l.ove. a coloredl man, living on the place of
Mr. Wamble, alout three miles froau town,
and shott Lave three times. frim the etreits
of which lie died in a short time. A negro
girl in the house at the time was also shot
itt the hip: the wound, however, is not con
nilereid daogeritin. Five shot. in all were
tired, and the parties decamped without
asy clue to their identity. The causme of
the shoutiug is involved in mystery. For,
although LoaPe was just]y regarded a a
very had man, it is not known that he had
