Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hobgod Pullen of Houma, La., have an nounced the engagement of their daughter Viola Virginia, to Mr. Philip Henry Mecom, of New Orleans, formerly of Caldwell Parish. The wedding to occur at St.Mathew's Episcopal church in October. Miss Henrietta Nelson of Cald well parish died at St. Francis Sanitarium today. Miss Nelson who was 54 years old resided on a plantation near Columbia with three brothers. The funeral ser vices will be held tomorrow morning following the arrival of a brother from Chicago who is a prominent banker in that city. News Star, July 31, 1916. C. P. Thornhill for Judge The Watchman today presents the announcement of C. P. Thornhill as a candidate 'for the office of judge of the district and' feels that the gentleman needs but little introduction, if any, at our hands. As state's attorney in the past, he made a splendid record, exe cuting every duty devolving up on himself in a conscientious and fearless manner. As an attorney-at-law he has enjoyed splendid success and is in every way qoaliied to fill the important office to which he as pires. If elected he will do so to the entire satisfaction of all. Ja'n:s, sustained a cornm pound fracture of both bones of tne left limb betwcen the lnoee and anklh. The little lady was standing 'near the rink when one of the skaters lost control and accident ally ran into her ,with the above painful results. She was carried to the office of Dr. May, who set the limb and afterwards she was carried to her home, where Dr. May re ports that she is doing splendid ly, and the Watchman hopes that she will soon be out again. The First Open Boll The first open bol! to be pro duced in Caldwell arrived* last Saturday, having been brought in by Mr. T. J. James who in forms us that the prospects for a splendid yield are good. The open boll was of the fa mous "Money Maker" variety and the gentleman has over 250 acres in this variety.of the f!eecy staple from which he will har vest a bumper crop.
