Ban ner-Democrat :-T'o -diy s Pica
ilune puhiishes from a circular letter
of General Pearson to the people of the
United States concerning the shipment
of horses apd mules to South Africa.
which will be widely copied by the
press, and find many readers. ,"It
goes without saying" that the prepon
derance of editorial comment will be
pro-Boer.
Fiat justitia ut rual coldum! The
letter suggests the questions:
Are our ports being made bases of
wariike operations' against the Boers?
Would suppression of export of mules
and horses from our ptrts have any
effect other than to take this trade out
of the bands bsf our citizens for the
benefit of some ether country? Do the
Britons torture mnd slay woman and
children?
Can the puritans of Massachusetts
tand the cavaliersof Virginia and South
Carolina. believe such a charge against
the soldiers of tihe mother country?
Sympathize with the heart, but
criticize with the brain!
Fight for the Boers if you think the
tail of 'our' (oat has been trqdden, but (
donl't accuse your neighbors of sin and
ashame because he sees his mule colt in
the vay of busineis!
Uheonscious of prejudice, with sym
pathy for th, weak and admiration for
the brave, I repeat flat justitia!
