The remiaiiis of Mr. McCandless were
brought to Providence oni Friday and
laid away in our cemetery. Rev. Mr.
Denson, of the Methodist church, con.
ducting the ceremony.
COAL at Bell's Ldg.
The Memuphis Cotmmercial-Appeal
of Thursday last gave out the informla
tion that the large government dredge
boat Galnmma, would leave in a few
days for. Lake Providenc?, where it
would be put to work cutting away
the large sand bar about a mile above
town on the Misslssippi side. The
Gamma is said to be thie largest dredge
in the service of the governmeunt, and
ire capacity is somethiung like 800 cu
bic yards per hour. T'he bar above
town is very large and it will take
something like six weeks or two
niotiIthse to fiinsh the work. Too badl
though that the bank is ntot to be re
vettedl, the kintd ol work that has
givet perfect satisfaction wherever it
itas been put it.

Mr. Yancey Bell, who has held the
position of clerk of the Police Jury
