More of the Fontenot-Gaillory Controversy---Mr. Fontenot Replies Opelousas, La., Sept. 16th, 1910. Mr. Editor: I see in your last is sue a letter from Mr. 0. E. Guillory, of Ville Platte, La., and in which he accuses me of trying to side-step the questions at issue in our controversy over the proceeding of the Pohce Jury of Evangeline at its first meet ing on Aug. 2, 1910. A reference to the Clarion of Sep tember 3d, will convince any fair minded person that it is Mr. Guillory himself that seeks to side step. He side steps so fast that it is difficult to pin him down to anything definite. He should pay less heed to the sense of smell of the Clarion readers and more to the correctness and truth fulness of his mean and contemptible "hints." It is tree that the primary law says that the Parish should pay commissioners and clerks of election, etc., but Mr. G., who is very "apt" in other respects, entirely forgets to tell the Clarion readers that the Parish of Evangeline is not now in existence and has no funds to pay anything, election claims or what not. The Police Jury was acting under au thority of the State Democratic Com mittee which had directed that they call the primary and that it be con ducted as near as possible under the primary law. I have not as yet heard any complaint from the State Com mittee. The Police Jury took the view that the candidates should pay the expenses, they were honest in that opinion, and it comes with mighty poor grace from Mr. O. E. Guillory to question their motives. The Democratic Committee of St. Landry Parish assessed the candidates $200 in the last judicial election and no one raised a murmer. It remained for this "smart" Mr. G. to discover tt'an election could be financed on the sum of $32.70. Perhaps, Mr. .E.tor, it was the hard thinking that this Mr. G. had to do in financing his election that resulted in his "worry, loss of sleep, disturbance of mind" etu., for which he asked to be paid $1000 in suit No. 18686 of the Civil Dpcket of St. Landry Parish, entitled r"0. F Guillory et. al. vs Dubuisson i in cluchsion, Mr. Editor, I wish Ssay that I know of no wrong doing Sthe boice Jury of Evangeline, or of ny ,itizens trying to coerce the Pdce iury, and if Mr. Guillory has Snformation to show guilt on 1 de, one he shouldt come out with i If he maso, to oalrge any wrong g. or co irray, on my part, I compselled to denounce his asser- c t as. fae and unfounded.
