Editor of St. Landry Clarion, Opelousas, La., Dear Sir: In your headlines over my let ter published in your last.issue you make it appear that I am backing my opinion with money and incidently you mention the name of Mr. Homer Barrousse, President, and Mr. Edward Dal gle, Vice President of the Com mercial Bank of this town. I wish you would make it plain to your readers that neither myself, Mr. Barrousse nor Mr. Daigle nor the bank has anything what so-ever to do with the bet in question further than hold the money on deposit until it is either covered or withdrawn by the party who deposited same. Yours very truly, LLOYD FRANdQUES, Cashier. Smith--Smith. A pretty wedding and one of interest to the residents of the pretty Belle vue district, was the marriage of Miss Beatrice Smith of Bellevue and Mr. Walter Smith of Grand Coteau. The ceremony was per formed at the home of the bride, and Rev. Reams of the local Methodist church officiated. The bride was dressed in a beautiful creation of white satin and wore a wreath of orange blossoms. She was indeed a picture of loveliness. The groom wore an appropriate suitof black. Many friends and relatives of the bride and groom were pres ent to see them embark on their journey and the well wishes of the entire community are theirs. The l"tep couple will make their home in Belle ve in the beauti ful new home meted for them. Judge Dupre, Will. Not Be A saN ate. Opelousas, La. Oct. 8, 1911. To the Voters of St. Landry: I had expected to become a candidate for the Legislature. I believed I could be of much use to the people of this parish and State. .To become such candi date, I might have to put a pad lock on my mouth and surrender my individuality. This is paying too much for the whistle. The game is not worth the candle. I had rather courageously sup port Hall and Gueydan and Pujo, than go to the Legislature. This I am going to do to the last ditch. I desire to thank my friends and the gentlemen from the Michel and Sanders ranks, who unsolicitedly proffered me their support. This evidences that there are yet some free men in this parish. The pity is, there are not more of them. Yours truly, GILBERT L. DUPRE. Rain on Friday. After threatening rain all the week and a few little showers a real rain fell here on Friday. It will require considerable of this article now to replenish the cis terns and ponds, and it is said a that stock-water is becoming a very scarce commodity in the r country near by. t Larcade StorE Announces its Fall Opening Thursday, October 19th.
