Miss Dora Murff, the 21 year old girl, of Crowley, who was convicted of manslaughter for killing James Delaheye, a popu lar engineer of the Acadian city, several months, has been refused a new trial by the Supreme Court of Louisiana. She will have to serve four years in the state penitentiary for the killing of her supposed betrayer. This is the first conviction of the kind in the south. James Duval, her stepfather was sentenced to life imprison ment in November for the mur der of the engineer. The only hope for the Duval girl now rests with the pardon board and it will be some months before it can reach that tirbunal, if taken up. Miss Murffis in the Acadiapar ish jail, but it is thought that she will be taken to the peniten tiary during the next few days. Her case proved one of the widest interest, owing to the fact that scores of men had been murdered by women in thesouthr and Miss Murff was the first to be found guilty. Freight Depots To Close Saturday Evenings. The three freight depots in this city will close at 1 o'clock on Saturday evenings during the months of May, June, July, Au gust and September, in order that the employees of the rail road companies may enjoy the summer evenings. The three local agents are co operating for the purpose of pro moting better freight facilities and striving to give thepeopleof this community the-best possible service. They have adopted cer tain rules and regulations in har mony with each other and to be followed by the three companies in Opelousas. See add to our patrons which appears in another column of this paper. Death of Mr. E. T. Latfeur. Mr. Lafleur died at his resi dence in Ville Platte, on Wednes day morning at 1:50 after a lin gering illness. He moved from his beautiful country home to this town four years ago, to take advantage of our then splendid school advantages. Shortly af ter taking up his home among us he suffered a stroke of par alysis, which left him helpless. He had to be cared for by hisde voted wife like an infant and only by her devotion and care that his days here were pro longed. He was sixty-six years of age. The funeral was largely attended, Judge Pavy adjourned court to allow the officials to at tend the funeral, which took place from the Catholic church Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock. He leaves his wife and eleven children to mourn his death. To the bereaved ones we extend our s'ympathy in this hour of be reavement.-The Banner. Mr. Lafleur was well known in St. Landry parish, where he en joyed a large circle of friends. He was known as a charitable man all of his life and was a suc cessful business man.
