' WINNFIELD, LOUS.IT , F yIDA Y, AUGUST 12, 1910. NUM .Da The Si.ecial Session. For a Parish Fair. The idea of holding an annual Par ish Fair here in Winnfield has been Mc more or less prevalent over the parish fol for several y cars, but no definite steps Gil have been taken towards the accom- Tb plishment'of the project. Other par- cai ishes over the State have been and me are holding parish fairs every year, de: and the benefits resulting from them an is apparent to even the most casual thy observer,. Take for. instance our ye :ieighboring - parishes of Bienville, thi .Lincoln and Webster here in North hii Louisiana, wherein fairs are held, and Oc :epare their farms, farming meth- Ti init stock, etc., with our own here in to 'Winn, and it is readily seen that some Cr '% .incentive force has been at work in co those parishes that is absent here in do ours. th It is the inherent desire of every an one to excel his fellow man. This fe desire when properly controlled stim- in u" ilates and prompts people to put forth re their best efforts in every phase of life. Li(kewise the, fairs in these par- ac i ee ve beenthe stimulating force he taithaekeeOd the farmers to raise a x betterstock and adopt more progree sve farming methods, and what has al been done in other parts of the: State may likewise be done here. Not only qi S would aparish fair benefit 'the farm- ! er but would be of equal help top our merchants. Winnfield Fire Company met Monday night, August 8th, with"the following members present: Chief C Gibbs, Captain Fullerton, 2nd Lieut. Thieme, Earl Eagles, Frank Lan caster. R. N. Pippin was elected to membership. T. N. Crawford ten dered his resignation as secretary and treasurer on account of leaving the city. The fire company regrets very much to lose Tom; he has filled the office for some time and.has done his full duty, and the :Winnfield Fire Company has lost a valuable member. The fire company elected Earl Eagles to fill the vacancy caused by T. N. )Crawford's resignation and we feel confident that Earl will do his full duty. Earl has been a member of this department since its organization and has proved to be a faithful and fearless fire fighter and we feel safe in saying that Earl will always be ready to respond to alarms. ' The fire company has a valuable acquisition in Mr. R. N. Pippin who has proved himself a fire fighter and a gentleman in the full sense of the word. We take off our hats" to him s and give him a hearty welcome. e The fire company has been having quite a rest of late, but they are ready to respond any moment .the fire alarm sounds.
