" SOUTHERN PACIFIC RAIL
WAY TO ADVERTISE RICE
of -
of September 30to Will Be Rice Day on I
at All Southern Pacific Lines Both
he Railroads and Steamships.
Ut
it
. Information has just come to us
that, following its custom, the South
;at ern Pacific rail and steamshiP lines,
n extending from Portland, Oregon to
New York, will celebrate September
the N
30 as Louisiana and Texas Rice Day.
A rice dish will be served free to
to patrons of the dining cars and to I
ipassengers on steamships that day.
US- In addition to this the menues5vill
the contain several otner delicious rice
ot dishes for whichl a minimum charge
rhe will be made. Some special litera
ept ture has been issued by the Southern
the Pacific whichb ives some valuable in
ery formation regarding rice and many
in rice receipts. These booklets will be
ew distributed to passengers on Septem-.
old ber 30.
oManyv of the railroads of Louisiana
ot as well as manv northern lines, have
ha given their assurance that they will
ur- take similar action and serve rice
h dishes free to patrons of their dining
e cars on September 30th.
et The object of this celebration is to
her increase the consumption of this
de- wonderful cereal. Many of our own
in- people do not appreciate its nutri
ith- tive value.
aent Mr. J. H. R, Parsons, General Pas
senger Agent of the Southern Pacific
at New Orleans, informs us that he
will be pleased to send a copy of the
tom little bouklet mentioned above to any
m one who will drop him a line. HIe
in 5 believes that after reading the book
br- and trylng a few of the receipts you
ellb. will become an inveterate rice eater.

An analysis of the above vote presents a number of
interesting fa'cts, and gives practical assurance that
Welsh will be victorious in the second primary. A
I study of the vote will show,
ice That Welsh was the only one of the three competing
towns that carried its own vote.
to That Welsh is the only one of the competing towns
that did secure votes in every precinct in the
i- parish. Lake Arthur failed to get a vote in 12 of the
'a. precincts, and Jennings failed to get a single vote in 4
Ic of the 16 precincts.
be That Welsh received a majority in 13 of the 16
precincts of the parish, while Jennings received a ma
n jority ini but two precincts in the parish, JEnnings and
o Baymond.
. That Welsh received two and a haW times as many
votes outside of her own pre(inct as she polled within it
while Jennings received but about half as many votes in
all the rest of the parish as she polled in her own pre
cinct.
That Welsh received more than twice as many
votes in the parish, outside of her own precinct, as
Jennings did outside of her own precinct.
That Jennin'gs' entire vote is practically confined to
four precincts,\ having received but 38 votes from the
remaining twelve precincts.
That the vote for Welsh is pretty evenly scattered
over the entire parish, she having received a substantial
vote in every precinct in the parish except Jennings and
Lake Arthur, and in each of these places, although
candidates for the parish seat themselves, Welsh re
ceived some votes.
