James Newton Steele, was born in Jackson County, Missouri, August 18th 1854, and died in Welsh, Louisiana, No vember, 26, 1912, having attained the age of 58 years, 3 months and 8 days. In 1870 deceased was united in mar riage to Miss Anna Mary Gray, to which union, two daughters, Mrs. Edna Bailey, of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Mrs. Alice C. Harris, of Waller, Texas. were born. In 1885 Mr. Steele united with the Seventh Day Adventist Church of which organization he continue: a sincere and devoted member, until the day of his death. In 1903, Mr. Steele and his family came to Welsh, where he has resided since, teing esteemed as a man of education and thorough religi ous principles, by a large circle of friends. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two brothers and four sis ters, who mourn his departure. The funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church, of this city, by Rev. W. P. Lennox, of New Orleans, assisted by Rev. T. E. Webb, the Methodist pastor. Interment was made in the Welsh cemetery. Card of Thanks. We desire to express our sincere thanks to our many friends and neigh. bors for their sympathy and assistance in this our greatest sorrow, the death of our beloved husband and father. MRS. Dr. Dowling left at midday Monday for Natchitoches and is in hopes of finding the talented authoress.
