Hon. T. A. Edwards, Dist Atty, ad dressed the Police Jury at length, .ex plaining the law governing many points of action, and fully explained the' laws as to the conditions of settlement of the finances as between the Parish' of Calcasieu and the Parish of Jefferson Davis, and on behalf of the Police Jury of Calcasieu Parish, invited the Police: .Jury, as of Jefferson Davis PNlish, or a Committee from same, to meet with the Police Jury of Calcasieu Parish, on January 17, 1913 for the purpose of discussing a basis of settlement of the finances between the two Parishes. On motion, seconded and carried; the whole Police Jury was appointed as a Committee of the whole to go to Lake Charles and meet with the Police Jury of Calcasieu Parish on Jan. 17. On motion, seconded and carried the Police Jury adjourned until 1:00 P. M. Afternoon Session. The Police Jury met pursuant to ad. I journment, and was called to order by the President at 1:30 P. M. with all members of the Police Jury present. J. F. Fuselier, Sheriff, appeared and made some suggestions as to the jail, on motion, seconded and carried, the suggestions of the Sheriff were refered to the Committee on Court House and "lGrounds. A communication was read from the L, Jefferson Davis Monument Association, u of New Orleans, offering to present a n life size oil painting, framed of Jeffer- I son Davis to be hung on the wall of the e Court House. - On motion of Hathaway. seconded and unanimnously carried, that the offer of the Jefferson Davis Monument Association, to present a life sized oil 0 painting of Jefferson Davis be accepted n and that the Clerk of the Police Jury, n be authorized to so advise the said a Association. The Finance Committee reported a Budget for the year 1913, as follows; On motion seconded and carried, the following budget for the year 1913 was adopted as a report of the Finance Committee to which the matter of budget had been referred. The Alpha Embroidery Club Enjoys "Old Time" Evening's Entertainment. The home of Dr. and Mrs. W, L. Stewart was the scene of a most en. joyable social evening Wednesday, when the Alpha Embroidery Club gave the first of their quarterly socials for the year 1913. The home was beauti fully decorated with cut flowers, the royal purple of ihe violet predominat* ing. The members and guests of the club to the number of about fifty, throwing all cares to the winds, as sembled for an evening of fun and laught r. Old time games and amusements were enjoyed by all, from the oldest to the youngest, making the evening one of the pleasantest that the members of the club have furnished their fortunate friends. Excellent music was appropi. ately interspersed with the various other forms of amusement and enter. tainment, adding its charm to the pleasures of the evening. Following the amusements of the occasion an elegant luncheon, consist ing of sandwiches, fruits, olives, pickles, candy and coffee was served and enjoyed by all present. Tom Thumb Wedding Greeted By Large and Appreciative Audience Friday Evening, Repeated Tuesday Evening. The best home talent entertainment that has been given here in a long time and possibly the most pleasing of any of the recent entertainments, was the Tom Thumb Wedding given by about 70 of the.little tots of the town under the auspices of the ladies of the Baptist . church, and the direction of Miss Francis McMahan, last Friday even. Ing. The Auditoriurh was well filled, with a highly appreciative audience. The little folk were arrayed in dress suits and trailing gowns such as might be expected to oe seen at a stylish wedding. The bride was Little Miss Elizabeth Robinson and the groom was Master R. M. Gray, both of whom went through the ordeal with befitting solem Snity. The unconscious childish simpli. a city of the little folk was the chief charm of the entire performance. In response to a popular demand Sfrom those, alike who witnessed it SFriday night, and those who did not, Sthe ladies who had it in charge decided Sto repeat it Tuesday evening, with no Smaterial changes in the program, but Swith some changes in the parts taken Sby different members of the cast.
