ALUES BOMBARDING ADRIANOPIE
N AFTER TWO MONTHS' ARMISTICE
PROVINCES AGAIN AT WAR.
S
y Bulgaria Turns Deaf Ear to Remon.
y strances of Powers, and Will Now
o Fight to a Finish.
a London.--The Balkan war has been
1. resumed. The bombardment of Adria
a nople began Monday night and a small
a skirmish occurred at the Tchatalja
d lines. The armistice had lasted ex
w actly two months.
Bulgaria has turned a deaf ear to
the remonstrances of the powers and
unless Turkey yields to the Balkan
demands, the allied armies will now
attempt to drive her completely out of
Europe.
According to a dispatch from Bel
grade, Scutari already is on the point
, of falling. It is reported that the
p Turkish commander has sent two rep
resentatives to the Servian comman
der to propose the capitulation of that
town.
t Dr. Daneff, head of the Bulgarian
delegation, in an interview in Paris,
s said he had promised Sir Edward
Grey, the British foreign secretary,
that if the Turks immediately accept
ed the allies' conditions, they would
conclude peace, but whatever happen
ed, there would be no further armis
tice. .
Sir Edward Grey had a long inter
view with the king Monday, after
which he attended a brief meeting of
the ambassadorial conference, but
nothing of importance was transacted.
Osman Nizamni Pasha, the second
Turkish delegate, will leave London
immediately to resume his ambassa
dorial duties at Berlin. He said that
from information received from mili
tary sources he believed the allies
underestimated the condition of the
Turkish army and would find then
selves confronted by a redoubtable
enemy-the best Mussulman warriors,
veterans from Arabia who had fought
under Izet Bey and tried soldiers and
good marksmen lately engaged in
Tripoli under Enver Bey and Fethy
Bey. He added:
"The ambassador was right who
predicted that if driven to despair, the
Turks would fight like wild animals "
CAVALRY BRIGADE TO E LOCATED IN TEXAS
San Antonio Made Army Division Un
der Reorganization Plan Ordered
By the President.
Washington. - Provision for the
tactical organization of the United
States army into three infantry di
visions and one cavalry division, is
made in an order issued by direction
of President Taft and made public
Monday by Secretary of War Stimson.
This plan of reorganization, which
becomes effective February 15, in
cludes the entire mobile army within
the continental limits of the United
States, as first drafted by the war col
lege division of the general staff, and
was determined upon with some modi
fications at the close of a conference
of general officers at the war depart
ment last month.
Hitherto there has been no tactical
organization other than a regiment.
There have been no brigades or di
visions existing in time of peace.
Upon the outbreak of war, when an
army was needed, it was necessary to
create such an army under all the
stress and hurry and excitement of
such an occasion. In order to carry
out the necessary administrative work
connected with the military establish
ment of the United States, the coun
try has been divided by the new or
der into four geographical depart
ments-an Eastern, Central, Western
and Southern department, with head
quarters, respectively, at Governor's
Island, Chicago, San Francisco and
San Antonio.,
One army division will be situated
in* each of these departments, the
cavalry division being in the Southern
department, with an infantry division
in each of the remaining departments.
The Eastern and Western depart
ments are virtually the same terri
torially as the present Eastern and
Western divisions, while the Southern
department is carved from the pres
ent Central division.

Behalf of Women.
Webster Springs, W. Va.-In an in.
teresting letter from this place, Miss
Agnes Duff says: "I had been afflicted
with womanly trouble for three years,
and felt weak all the time.
My back and sides ached so, I al
most got past going.
I had used a great many different
f kinds of remedies, but they failed to
do me any good.
I had heard of Cardul, the woman's
tonic, and decided to try it. When I
had used the third bottle of Cardul, I
felt like a new person entirely. I
gained both in health and weight.
I praise Cardul for my recovery and
good health, and I feel sure it will do
the same for others, as it has me, if
they will only give it a trial."
The above letter is an earnest, frank
statement of Miss Duff's opinion of
Cardul. She has confidence in it, be
cause it relieved her, after many dif
ferent kinds of other remedies had
failed, and she believes it will help
you, just as it did her, if you will give
it a fair trial.
We Join Miss Duff in urging you to
give Cardul a trial. It cannot harm
you, and, Judging from the experience
of thousands bt others, is almost sure
to do you good.

SCURF ON BABY'S HEAD
Campbell, Va.-"I used Cuticura

cure. It came on her head soon after
birth. It broke out in pimples and
itched and she would scratch it and

very sore and her hair fell out in
bunches. She was very cross and fret

tried many remedies, all failed, then I
tried Cuticura Soap and Ointment and
they commenced to heal at once. I
put the Cuticura Ointment on, and a

Temperate Humanity.
The driver of a brewery wagon
stopped at a restaurant where he de
livered beer and prepared to water
his horses. He had filled a pail from
the street hydrant and was about to
offer it to the near horse when the
command "Put that down" caused
him to drop the bucket with a splash.
Then a woman plunged a thermome
ter into the water.
"Too cold by several degrees," she
said. "Get a pail of hot water from
the restaurant."
The driver mumbled "What, for?"
but he was awed by the woman's
commanding manner and he fetched
the hot water as directed.
"Now," she said, "pour some of
that could water out and pour hot wa
ter into the pail until it registers
about 57 degrees. Then water your
horses. It is cruel to make a horse
drink water colder than that, and ev

REALLY NAMED FOR STATE
Mississippi River Steamers Originated
Cognomen That Has Now Be
come Universal.
On the Mississippi river in olden
days the passenger steamboats were
very ornate affairs, vying with each
other in garish glory. One owner hit
on the idea of naming his steam
boat's cabins instead of numbering
them. So he named them In honor of
the states of the union, each having
above the door the gilt title of some
state, the big central cabin being call
ed the "Texas," after the largest state.
Other boat owners took up the idea,
and thus the word cabin was grad
ually alternated by "state" room. For
years the best cabin was still known
as the Texas. Then that sobriquet died
with the ebbing glory of the old river
steamers. But the word "stateroom"
became incorporated into our lan
guage, and in time even broke into the
dictionary, as does many another
catch phrase. Not one person in a thou
sand who occupies a stateroom knows
the term once meant "a room named
for a state."

A TONIC LAXATIVE
Pe-ru-na, an Up-to-Date Family Medicine That
Should Be In Every Home
4r
S. B. HARTMAN, M. D.
Nearly everybody is obliged more or
less to take a laxative. There are of
course a few exceptions, A great many
people also need occasionally to take a
tonic. Probably few households exist
that do not make use of tonics and
laxatives.
The remedy Peruna is a laxative
tonic. It not only operates as a gentle
laxative, but also as a tonic.
The benefit derived from such a
remedy is a great deal more in the
prevention of disease than in the cure.
After a person has really become sick,
either with an acute or chronic ail
ment, the rule should be to employ a
physician, or some one who can give the
case his personal attention. But long be
fore this happens the person will complain
of this or that symptom, which is not se
vere enough to interfere with his regular
activities. If at this place before the di
sease has really gained a foothold in the
system, a person was to take a dose or two
of a good tonic laxative the great major
ity of cases of sickness would be pre
vented.
Peruna is a remedy that should be kepb
in the house. Its virtue as a preventive
to disease is the thing I wish chiefly to
emphasize.
A slight condition of constipation may
lead to serious sluggishness of the bowels,
biliousness, re-absorption of poisonous ma
terial and finally sickness. Or apathy of
the stomach in which the food is not rel
ished, may gradually lead to atonic dyspep
sia or to the acquisition of so!ne acute dis
ease. For either one of these conditions
a few doses of the tonic laxative Peruna
would set matters right. This is why the
remedy should always be kept handy by.
When once the value of Peruna as a
household remedy is understood no home
would be without it. Cathartics, pills and
powders would be dischrded. Irritating
tonics would be no longer taken. Alco
holic drinks would have no place. With a
few doses of Peruna a vigorous appetite is
produced and if there be any sluggishness
of the bowels their function is gradually
restored.
Most laxatives are weakening in their
effect. A tonic laxative guards against
this weakening effect. Until right living
has become so thoroughly established that
all medicines are superfluous, Peruna will
be needed. It is exactly the remedy that
meets numerous recessities of the house
hold. Sold at all drug stores.
Mr. John B. Perkins. 22 Whiting St.,
Plymouth, Mass., writes: "I think Pe
runa is a number one medicine. I was
troubled with catarrh. and bowel com
plaint. I tried several doctors, but could
only find temporary relief. I took Peruna
and am glad to say that it cured my ca
tarrh and correctal my bowels."
