DECEMBER 8 1916 R. S. GRE 6 Editor and Manager. GO TO CHURCH. How many of our readers will go to church next Sunday? How many people in our town will do as they should do and attend church service? A church service fills the mind with ideas which make for cleaner living and a greater peace of mind, body and soul. All need to go to church-some church. They are all good. All strive to reach the same place. It is need ful to attend services of this kind be cause if men and women are to justify their existence they must feed their minds with the ideas that come from the Creator. In failing to go to church one loses something which is vital and neces sary to well being. So, try out the suggestion Sunday. Nothing will be lost, much gained. The call from the church is a call to humanity's bet ter nature, a call well worth heeding. If our readers see any way by which our, as well as your newspaper can be improved and made more helpful and entertaining, the editor is not only willing, but eager to hear of it. We are always on the lookout for some thing better, and by helping us you profit thereby, and by benefiting you we gain thereby. A word to you, sonny-you little twelve or thirteen-year-old boy who is smoking cigarettes on the sly. What do you want to be when you grow up --a stalwart, healthy, vigorous, broad. shouldered man, or a little, puny, measly, no count, weak-minded dude? If you want to be a man, strong like a man, with hair on your face, brains in your head and muscles in your limbs, you just let those cigarettes alone. If you want to be a thing, pitied by your folks, despised by the girls and held in contempt by the fellows, keep right on smoking and end your days in the insane asylum. WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN. Many a lonely bhachelor, looking back over the stretch of years, re calls the charamtg moonlight nights when the cool summer air was per famed with old-fashioned flowers and he looked into the loving eyes of his sweetheart; reealls how the crimson glow of youth flushed her velvet cheeks as he took her warm hand in give that hand a "square deal" played it in the game of life-he wokld have had a full house now. The first issue of the Progress came off the press December 1st. We are sure that the good people of Sul phur will appreciate the editor's ef forts to furnish them with a good lo cal paper, and that they will accord him the necessary support to perpet uate it. Mr. Hearne has a full print shop equipment on the ground but has been unable to get it up in working order in time to print the first edition of the Progress, but he has contracted with N. L. Miller of the Jennings Times Record to issue the paper until his shop is readly. Mr. IHearne, himself, is an exempli F.cation of the old saying: "You can't keep a good man down." After laboring in Vinton for five years against all oddls and obstacles to make a success of the Booster, fire wipea out his plant and left him with not much but health and ambition on which to stnai t again, and he is proving these assets ale sufficient to start any man in this land of progress and plenty.
