OLD LAND MARK IS BEING REMOVED a The building on the Verret Y property north of the railroad is lbeing dismantled this week and e will be removed from the location the property on which it is situ ated having been sold by Mr. .J. " A. Verret recently to L. M. Du cote, agent for the Southern Pa cific railway. i The teairng down of this build in brings to the front some of its history that it will be pleasant for the old timers to recall. It - is not an old' building, having f been erected about fifteen years - ago, at that time being located about two blocks east of its pres ent location, near the Aection a house. It was, built by 'the late 1 Mr. Alex Verret for the accomo t dation of Sam Berkowitz, ,who F operated a clothing and dry goods store therein. It is said that Sam eveloped a very prosperous business there,' but he also de veloped a fondness for the "four aces", which ultitnately resulted in his financial downfall. Before the fire of 1910 the building was rembved to its pres ent location, being used as a blacksmith shop for some time. In this building Welsh's first 'garage was established by Jesife Buckingham. Although not so very long ago tht arages of those days were not as pretentious as the ones of today. The building has since been 'used by Mr. E. F. Doan as a tin shop and lastly by Mr. Mohler as a paint shop. It is stated that Mr. Verr'et will use most of the material, which is in building purposes.
