THE AMERICAN EAGLE. The eagle bird ofthe great Anir iean nation, has fix. d his piercing eye on Nicaragua. Not only has he fixed hi= eve on that lblooming lard, but he ha gone furthea. wi'. one foot firwly clutching the domce of the Capitol, at Wa:-.iiu;tmn, he has reached out with the other, awli inserted his talons i:to the fullest part of the Nic.raguan trousers, and the indications are, that he will "hold his holt." This admirable diplomatic posi tion, appears to be displeasing tO, the British Lion, causing the lion to bustle up, and give vent to sun dry threatening gro ls, but the eagle bird don't scare worth a cent. He is accustomed to giving odls. odds as great as twenty-scven. to one, and then coming out ahead. The British Lion can growl all he wants to. He can rear up, and 1prance around, and show his teeth to his heart's content, but he must stay at home to do it. He can't come over on this side of the water and indulge himself. The eagle bird is the cock of the walk over here, and he don't propose to tol e crate any interference. Just 1it the eagle bird alone, and hlie is quiet enough, but if he is crossed in his family affairs, he will rufflle up his feathers, and scream defiance to a benighted old world. No lions or anything else, can browse on his range. He will make it red hot for intruders, of any, or all kinds, andl flap terror into the hearts of his adversaries. ilis coat tails drag the ground, and he just wants to see any John Bull, or Johnny Crapeau, or Hans Sauer kraut step on them. Oh, the great American eagle is on the warpath, and he struts. liHe has got a coal Ileet, flushed with success, with which he will butt to the bottom of the ocean, any ventursome ironclad that puts in an appearance. Canada swarms with kAnerican patriots disguised as bank cashiers, and the merest trifle, is liable to precipitate a con flict which will make Europe stand aghast at the commotion. Thrones will totter, dynasties will be im perilled, while the bald headed American eagle bird, will withdraw for a moment, his clutch on the bulge of the Nicaraguan trousers, and plunging his han- talons in his dragging coat tail pocket draw forth a red cotton pocket hanker - chief, and burying his beak in its capacious folds utter a blast of tri umphant definance. Hear him screech and tremble. [Nors, There is no copyright on this, r and no rights are reserved. It can be used by any American citizen for a 4th of July oration.] ETORTIIG A CON $ESSION. One report of the lynchingofth train wreckers, who wrecked the train near Purvis, states that the boy was tortured to make him con fese. The torture is said to have been most fiendish, namely, the boy's hands were trust into i hot stove, and literally burned off. The age of the child, for he was nothing more, was thirteen years. Such an act is unjustifiable. Nothing can justify such torture, or mitigate Isuch an attrocity. For the man himself, he deserved anything. The wrecking of a train, is an act that cannot be too severely punish ed, any and every torture is de served by a wretch, who, in the possession of his senses, at the age , of discretion, would commit such - an outrage, but a poor little child, t influenced by his father, is not a subject for mob vengance. The I man ought to have suffered, but to e torture the child, oh, it was pitiful, and shameful beyond utterance. The report of the torture of the >child is denied, andj is hoped, for - the'sake of "poor humanity" that s the report is not true. The U. S. snagboat John N. MIc Comb succeeded in getting engine SNo 313 of the V. S. & P. out of the Sriver at lower Vicksburg, on Sun -day. The Engine had been 1(11) Sdays in the water. It has cost , about $3,000 to get it out. The National Women's Sufferage Association intend to hold a meet ling in New Orleans, January 6th and 7th, 1885.
