Erwin, Sevier, Cochran Richard son and Fischel. The president stated the object of the meeting to be the considera tion of the question of the taxes of the V., S. & P. R. R. The agreement entered into by the parishes west of here, and the R. ItR. Co., was read by the clerk, and Maj. Waddill addressed the Board on the subject, advocating a compromise on the same basis as that agreed upon by the other parishes. lMaj. Lucas by request addressed the Board favoring the compromise. Capt. Stone stated the legal as pect of the question. Mr. Fischel moved that the pres ident be authorized on behalf of the Board to accept the proposition made by the road of a basis of as sessment of 83.500. Mr. Gilfoil addressed the Board, stating that the compromise was too low, and that he would not stand by it. Mr. Cochran seconded the mo tion of Mr. Fischel. Mr. Richardson moved to ad. journ to 2 o'clock p: m., seconded by Mr. Sevier and carried. The Board met after recess. The yea and nay vote being called on the motion of Mr. Fischel to fix the basis of asscsssment of the V., S. & P. IR. R., at 83.500 re sulted in a tie, Messrs. Long, Coch ran and Fischel voting yea, and Messrs. Erwin Richardson and Sevier voting nay. Mr. Fischel moved that we ad journ until May 16th, in order to get the true expression from the property tax payers of the parish in regard to the basis ofassessment for V., S. & P. R. R., and the president appoint a committee of three to correspond with non-resi dent tax-payers and a like com mittee for resident tax-payers, to report at said time. The President appointed the fol lowing gentlemen as such commit tee: H. B. HOLMES, ) Committee on J. H. iILFOIL, Non-Resident F. M. DAWSON, Tax-Payers. MAJ. G. C. WADDILL,) Committ. e A. L. FiSCHEL, on Resid't J. T. MCCLELLAN, Tax-payers Mr. Fischel moved that a com mittee of ten be appointed by the president to make arrangements for the ceremonies attending the laying of the corner stone, second ed by Mr. Sevier and carried. The president appointed the following as such comrr.ittee: H. B. Holmes, W. M. Murphy, Geo. W. Sevier, J. T. McClellan, G. A. Richardson S. F. Catchings, Sam James, S. E. Blum, F. L. Maxwell, G. IVW. Montgomery. On motion of Mr. G. W. Sevier. seconded by Mr. Cochran, it was resolved that Stone & Murphy At torneys be instructed to communi cate with F. P. Stubbs Attorney for the V., S. & P. R. R. Co., and to request that no action be taken in the tax injunction suit on file I until after the 16th inst., and also to propose to said Stubbs for this Board to accept a valuation of five thousand dollars per mile for ten ten years from completion on said Rail Road-as a compromise and to avoid further litigation, and to take such other action as may be necessary.
