We arme o eIf ulop that our peiple would be sUoe beigneed at this time; if bis Honor Jude BDidger, would adJourn the eriml al term of court till Its next regular term. We believe by so doing. he would merit, and receive, the everlasting grati tude of our people. We extend our thanks to our friend and Senator, Mr. Kelly, for a delicious mess of beets, (not dead-beats either) and a nice mess of encumbers. The Senator has the fuest garden in these parts; and especially the finest beets. that we have ever seen at this time of the year. The SenaQor is a hard man to beat any way; this 24th Senatorial District have already realized that fact. In this issue, will be found the Sheriff's advertisement offering State lands for sale. This sale Is made in conformity with Act 82 of 1884; and vests In the pir ehsuer an absolute title. These are lands which have heretofore been forfeited to the State for the non-payment of taxes due the State of Louisiana. The sae will be without appraisement for whatever it will bring, notary and Sheriffs costs to be added. 'Mr. iB. L. Tannehill, in addition to ba ing the best crop around here; has put the Winnfield and St. Maurice road in as good a condition, if not in the best of any road in the parish. He had our typo on the road with a bee, on Monday last. Our typo rays that using a hoe is aot "stickin' type." lie further says, that some of the boys tried to put a stop to The SaNTIxuL, by trying to cat a tree on him; but he used his heels and only got brushed a lIttle. . lb it resolved, Tht we hereby recom mend to the teachers throughout the par ish, and friends of Education at large, to organize themselves into an Educational A.soelatiot, and we would suggest that the Assoeation be organaed at Winnfield on Thursday, the 11th of June, 1885, at 10 o'clock a. m.; at whk thme and plsce we trst that a' peraea Interested In Edueaadonlauntmas will sttendk SJ. And we understand that he refused to sign the contract as prepared by that committee, and the whole think was drop ped right there. Since that tin:e Auditor Steele has had an abstract of the U. S. lands entered at the New Orleans laud office pIrepared; and the Register is only waiting to re ceive $75 from this parish, before he will send the abstract; the State having paid ote half the price. Fifty dollars will oh tain a revision of the old a:lstra:t. and new entries at Natchitoches otffice. Then if we include abstract of State lands for $100 this will make 8150.00 frotNatcwhi toches and State land offices. Auditor Steele says in his printed circular, that the State will pay one half; if so, $150.00 will pay the amount from the parish, from all three offices. We have urged, and do now urge, a call meeting of the Police Jury, to attend to this matter; be cause the law fixes the time at which the assessment shall be completed; and that time is nearly out. And further, that it will be impossible for the Assessor to make a complete assessment without those abstracts, and that the parish will lose at least $600.00 in revenues, on ac count of not having them. Our intention has not been to east an odium on the Police Jury, but to call their attention to a necessity for action. WIVES! MOTHERSI DAUGHTERS! BE YORt OWN PIIYIC'IAN! Broadwa, ork. -.ays 18n 058 Broadway, New York. Every newspaper punbliher has an or .esional subscriber whose soul seems to be made out of the fag-end of the mate rial. We are alwayrs thankful when such are lifted from our list. The sooner the better. They generally refuse to take the paper after receiving it two or three years without paying for it-a plain steal with an insult added. Or, else they move away withlout paying a nickle. Or, they all at ouce discover that they never or dered it, that they received It irregularly -'not half the time--wou't pay for it.' In either case It is a cowardly snap, such as an honest man would not be gullty of. The proper way to stop a newspaper is to pay up first then stop it afterwards. If yon are a gentlemen and don't owe a ceut, walk into the office, and candidly sav von do not wish the paper, or cannot affoid to subscribe. If you are on the hog plan, chuck it back in the post office, and mark it "refused."-Ex. New Advertisements. Coastable's Sale. S. M. Brian, vs. 3rd Justice Court, Win. J. Fautheree. Winn Parish, La.
