The committee appointed by the Farmers' Union some time ago to investigate the cotton ware house proposition, together with several other members of the organization, held a meeting Thursday evening in the Fletcher Hall for the purpose of deciding upon a location for a distict cotton warehouse and the char aoter of buildang to be erected. As soon as it was known that the Farmers' Union would decide on a location for the warehouse hat day Mesra. Fiher, Long, Wright,- Lodge, Harper and Fletcher commenced to circulate among the cltimens of- Winnfield wih th t view of getting up a subseriptom to the enterprise. Baton Rouge, July 10.--Chair man Tete and his committee met briefly at 10 o'clock to-day and disagreed violently. The disagreement resulted in two divergent reports on the investigation of the Railroad Commission. Here is the com mittee report: We, the undersigned members of the committee appointed in accordance with Housq resolution I No. 24; to investigate the Rail- ' road Commission of Louisiana J and its relation with corporations 1 in this State, beg leave to report that we find the commission is n performing a great service to the n people of the State in the way of l satisfactorily adjusting rates and I charges of corporations to patrons e through the well considered and a able rulings of said commission. That said bnvestigation was no investigation at all, but a fares from the bening to the end. Williams and sev eral others are enjoying a '"camp fish" on the Saline. THE NEW TOWN COUNCIL Held Its First Regular Monthly Meeting. The new Board of Aldermen of Winnfield held its first regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 2, but adjourned over until Tuesday of this week. Mayor Bevill presided at the meeting. The Board of Alder men consists of S. M. Abel, W. F. Cooper, R. H. Fletcher, J. M. Leeper, and J. R. Watts. The a election of officers was the first t work before the Board. J. M. Leeper was elected Mayor. pro tempore, E. E. Kidd, attorney; t J. 8. White, street.commissioner; f C. H. Sutton, sanitary officer. Only four of the Aldermen being preseat. there was a tie in the votes for clerk and printer and no election, was made, the matter t being left open until the full Board ca be present. An ordinance was adopted re- 0 quiring all property holders inside n the limits of the town to move their fences, galleries and other obstructions off of the streets. o The original side walks ordinance, E which applied only to the fire P district, was amended so as to ti apply to all parts of the town. (' The Marshal was instructed to t enforce the hog and dog ordi- r nancee. Physitan will be Promeeuted. New Orleans, July I2.-8teps to prosecute Dr. 8. Montigue, the physician of La Place, La., who failed to report a case of yellow fever to the health authorities until after the patrleo recovery, were taken today by )v. C. H. Irion, president of the Louisiana 8t ae Board of Heaith. Dr. Irion was informed by counsel fur the state board that the physician can be proceeded against under a puovision in the state law making it a itidemeanor to violate the sanitary code. The present code requires that con tagious diseases be reported within twenty-four hours after discovery. Hon. H. P. Following is the official pro ceedings of the Parish School Board, which was in session last Friday and Saturday: WINN.FIELD, LA., July 6, 1906. f The Winn parish Board of r School Directors met today in regular session. The president and all members present. F Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. On motion of Mr. Sowers the report of committee to locate a school near Log Camp in waird 7, was received. The school was disallowed and committee di3 charged. On motion committee to locate school in ward 5 and 1 were gran ted further time. Mr. Goldin moved that cow mittee to revise rules and regula tions of the parish be granted further time to report and two I members added to committee. t Carried and E. A. Y On motion Mr. Harper the cit zens and patrons of Pleasant Hill community may aidd a second story to contemplated school building at their expense for hall subject to approval of building J committee. it On motion $30 is appropriated out of Kelly school fund to re pair school building and secretary to issue warrant for same. f Mr. Stinson moved that $75 be appropriated out of Gaar's Mill school fund to repair house pro vided the same amount be paid by lodge owning interest in said property. Carried. On motion w. J. Long Messrs Dutton and Shell are selected members of examining committee for ensuing year. Mr. Sholars moved that $675 be appropriated to maintain the high school course in the wins field High School for a term of nine months beginning in Sep tember. Carried. Nays, John Stinson and w. J. Harper. Mr. Golden moved that money belonging to children H. williams be transferred from Brewton to Mulberry, motion was lost. On motion the payment of as sessor's claims for aesein spe cial taxes was deferred until Oc tober meeting. On motion $10 for each mem ber of board is appropriaated to defray expense to conference to Baton Rouge. (Continued on page five.) The quarterly statement of the Bank of Winnfield, which ap pears in this paper, is an excellent index to the growth and pros perity of this section, and especially of this splendid finan cial institution. Increase in cap ital and surplus $10,312.69; increase in loans $23,445.38; increase in deposits $47,980; working capital increased $7, 253.64, all during the past three months. There has been an in crease in all lines of the business, and we predict an increase within the next three months sufficient to place the Banks' resources at a quarter of a million dollaas.
