tPt l.t*c i. g lrveatly Improved. With the special appropriation of $10,000 made at the recent session of the General Assembly for the purchase of twenty-five acres of additional land for the Southwestern Industrial Instatate the Board of Trustees of that in stitution has consumated a pur chase which effectually lays the foundation for a great State in stitution of learning in Southwest Louisiana. The original twenty five acres which were donated by Mr. Crow Girard and his mother six years ago as an inducement to the State to select Lafayette as the location of the school, but not nearly enough to allow for its growth, additional buildings, etc., which would have soon de prived the young men of their athletic field and would have limited to a small area the space for gardens, etc for the boarding clubs. It is also necessary to have ,separate play grounds for the young ladies, who are entitled to" *mrsideraion as the yamg men. With the area of # acres now at the institute's amand all these various prob Ilas are happily salved. Sids are now being received for tb enlaigement and completion of•he young ladies' brick dormi tr of 20 rooms.. This gives the i itute three large brick build i besides the protected (gal ized iron) workshop, the Pres t's residence (frame) and the two and one-half story .residence recently par for $4,000 to be used as additionad dormitory. The present cash value of the - to plant is $162,000. THi SAP EIETINQ A Large Crowd Was Present Last Sunday. The annual camp meeting held at the celebrated Ebenezer Camp Ground was commenced Sunday, the 12th inst. The attendance was very g.ood, but last Sunday it excelled any previous gathering there. The Louisiana Railway and Navigation Company made the low rate of one fare for the round trip, which attracted quite a large crowd. When the train left Winnfield with four coaches they were more than comfortably filled and at each station on the road there were large crowds waiting, so that by the time we reached Aloha the coaches were packed until there was scarcely standing room. The two rear coaches were switched to the regular train from Alexandria` and there was a rush for seats on that train when it was found that they were as closely packed as the Winnfield train. It taxed three buss and hack lines to get the passengers from Kadesh to the camp ground. This is a great place for one to go and meet friends they have not seen for years. Those w ho go there and tent are very hos pitable. No one can go there without many invitations to eat with them, and they have every thing food to eat. There is no place in this country where one can go and enjoy themsemselves better. You can hear good ser mons and splendid singing and during the intermission enjoy the social intercourse with friends of bygone days. The pleasure on last Sunday was somewhat marred by a heavy downpour of rain just as tile 3 o'clock service began, which lasted until about 5 p. m. Then those who' had gone there to spend the day conuneueed to move toward the station to take the train which passed Kadesh at 7:12. When the last buss arrived it was observed that there were more at the station to take the train than got off in-the morning, and when the_.traia-hove-in sight theiiirwas a scramble for a place even standing room-which was at a premium when the train pulled out. The ' Winnfield contingent arrived at 11:5 very tired but all admitted having spent a pleasant day. of troiilea that robbed E. H.
