FERNANDO ESTOPINAL, Secretary Board of Commis sioners for the Lake Borgne Basin Levee District. Special iarne Warden Appointed. Daily States says: Captain Thomas W. Campbell, former clerk of the City Council, has been appointed a special game warden by the Game Commission. He will have charge of the important assignment at the mouth of the river' 'known as Jump and Cubitt's Gap, and, his duties will be to see that the game law is not violated in regard to shoot ing ducks. This is regarded as a very responsible position and one of con siderable importance, as the commis sion has had considerable trouble in en forcing the game laws at the locality m-ntioned. The game warden who was on duty in that section last year had too much territory to cover, and as a consequence he could not be on hand to see that the: hunters did not shoot more than twenty five ducks for each man, and also that they did net hunt after sundown. It was officially reported last season that at the Jump and the mouth of the riveri 900,000 ducks were killed and most of ;them sent to the markets. Captain Campbell has gone on a special trip to the mouth of the river i in the boat Mallard, belonging to the commission, and will make a thorough inspection of the conditions and report to the Game Commission. Captain Campbell will be assigned to this spe cial duty, and it is thought he will ac cept the appointment. He is well known in this city, having been con nected with the City Council as its as sistant clerk for many years. In addi- I tion to this Captain Campbell is an old steamboat man, and has also built sev eral gasoline launches and sailboats. He is fond of the water and is familiar with all the waters in Louisiana and on the coast. President Frank M. Miller, of the Game Commission, said today that he regarded Captain Campbell as a very competent man and he believed that his work would result in a great saving Sof a wantoned destruction of ducks. He says that the law has been violated in the number of ducks, and other birds ,allowed to each hunter in a single day, and also that some of the sportsmen have hunted at night, which is a viola- I tion of the law. President Miller be lieves that Captain Campbell is the very man for this position, and is glad to have his services as a special warden. The Golden Corn. S By EDNA DEAN PROCTOR.
