The Democratic Parish Committee of this parish met at Breaux Bridge Satur day last and nominated twelve delegates - to cast the six votes of the parish of St. Martin at the Congressional Convention which meetsat Newlberia on the 11th. - of the present month to nominate a can Ir. didate for Congressman for the Third SCongressional District. 00 The Committee has instructed its dele 00 gates to vote as a unit and to east their 00 first vote for Hon. C. H. Mouton. 00 Mr. Mouton is certainly qualified for 00 the position, having had great expe - rience in Legislative bodies. and would ' Afill this place with distinction, but the cb Messenger has already advocated the nominatton of Hon. E.J. Gay, and we re still maintain our position in favor of or that gentleman. Our sugar industry needs the valuable e services of Mr. Gay who has after much - study and labor acquainted himself with facts and data whicb would take a nea - man too moch valuable time to properly defend our sugar and rice industries, and especially by a man whose inclinations are more "free tiade" than "tariff revi a slon." We regret very much not being in a position to give Mr. Mouton our hearty support, but we cannot go against our convictton. We have beard several of our cit s as denounce in very bitter terms the action of the Parish Executive Committee claiming ttlt they hid no authority to As appoint delegates and that they have D usurped the right of the people.
