New Iberia voted Monday a spe. cial tax in favor of the New Iberia St. Martin and Northern Railroad, that will amount in ten years to $80,000. We lenrn that there was little oppositioni to the tax. The election for the same purpose will be held here in St. Martinville, Monday, anld the result is doubt ful, many are in favor of the Rail. road, but there is also a strong op. position because of the fear that the people will not vote the Rail road and Canal taxes, and ass the canal seems to be the most popu lar of the two propositions, the Railroad will probably be defeat ed to insure the success of the Ca nal. The railrad people made a mistake in trying to force the Railroad election before the Canal was voted for, and the defeat of the Railroad tax will be due to Sthis mistake.
