The Weekly lessenger, PUBII, IBEI) IEVERI A1tURIa T Al 0 ST. MARTIN\'ILLE. - LA.,1 - i ALBERT BIENVENU Proprietor . LAIZAIRE BIENVENU, Publsher Sb)cription $1 ,oo a year in advance SATURDAY, FIl:. 26, 1910. AN ICE FACTORY. 1'he people of St. Martinville have long felt the need and neces sity of an ice factory here. A fac tory here would give us cheaper ice and would insure a plentiful supply at all times, andi it is an industry that would keep our mo ney at hoie, as such a factory would give emy )lo enit to several of our home people who are in need of home work. \Ve learn that last week a gen tleman from Iluuona was here to interest soute of our people in an ice factory, but we could not learn his plans or what was his success. \We have, however, learned that a firm from Jennings would be here in a very few days to look up the situation with a view to at once erect an ice plant. There was some talk last year of adding an ice plant to the Bailey giunery, but we have not heard about it lately. We believe the opening here is a good for a factory, as this town has a population of about three thousand people, with a large sur rounding country and a large unm ber of small towns around that could be supplied from this plant. If we look around us we will find that many smaller towns have successful ice plants, why should not St. Martinville make a success with a fifteen ton plant ? We are satisfied that a plant of this kind in the hands of the pro per management would be a pay ing enterprise. Saved From Awful Peril. The programs at both institutes 4 were interesting and many other subjects reffering to school matters were discussed by the teachers. A COMMON COLD. I We claim that if catching cold could be avoided some of the most dangerous and I fatal diseases would never be heard of. A cold often forms a culture bed for s germs of infectious diseases. Consump - tiou, pneumonia, dipiheria and scarlet fever, four of the most dangerous and t fatal diseases, are of this class. The cul I ture bed formed by the cold favors the development of the germs of these dis ' easses, that would not otherwise find lodgment. There is a little danger, how s ever, of any of these diseases being con tracted when a good expectorant cough medicine like Chamberlain's Cough Re . medy is used. It cleans out these cul ture beds that favor the development of I the germs of these diseases. That is why this remedy has proved so universally successful in preventing pneumonia. It not only cures your cold quickly, but minimizes the risk of contracting these dangerous diseases. For sale by all druggist. Lame Shoulder. This is a common form of muscular rheumatism. A Breaux Bridge special to The Picayune, dated Feb. 20th says if "A grewsome killing occurred to-night on the Southern Pacific barge Harlan, which is the head quarters for a large gang of men who are completing the Southern ie Pacific's Atchafalaya bridge. The is unfortunate affair was the outcome 'r of a dispute over the ownership of ga mosquito bar between two of tlhe i men, Ed. Hodges, from Illinois, 27 L- years old, and August Smoker, a I" German, 41 years old. o Hodges fired three times at close 4 range into Smoker's body with a I- 41-caliber pistol, causing instant l death. Hogee was perfectly sober, i and in his statement to your cor Srespondent, very cooly given, he , cannot account for the rash act, e although he bears on his forehead al a scalp wouid, which he says must ' have been administered by the Sdead man. e Hodges was in a kneeling posi ., tion when he reglized what hlie hatd r done.
