Mrs. E. W. ienove nu, her children
decided to msake them a sunrip use
and celebrate the occasion at night.

Wedudeday evoening at 5 o'c lock
April the 24th, Mr. Louis Brous
sard, one of our progressive and
ena'ceesful planter, died suddenly,
on his plantation. Mr. Ierouseard
have been suffering from heart
trouble for several years, but this
did not prevented him fr,,m at
tending to the work of his planta
tion, and the news of death was a
sad one. Mr. Broussard was aged
58 years and 3 mouths. I he fu
neral took plaeo Thursday after-,

The gold medal for the best ora
tor was awarded to Mr. Jas. Si
mon, of St. Martinville, a small
boy in short trousers, who made
the hit of the evening pragram, in
his splendid oration on "Interna
tional and Universal Peace." It
was aetonishing to his auditors to
to hbear so young and small a boy
pronounce in full oratorical form

ers, but as he develoyed his sub
ject it was evident that he was
master of it, fully conversant with
the authorities hlie had consulted
in preparing it, and capable of de
